Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to know if some people can give me advice on what I should do to get into medical school. I applied this year, and I have been rejected from every school that I have applied. My stats were 3.2 science and 3.3 overall in a life science from a competitive university. I have two mcat scores: 2000-6v, 9p,10b,Q and 2001 9v,12p,10b,K. I don't know if I really need to sit through the horrendous mcat again. What should I do about the gpa? Should I take upper division courses at a calstate school or obtain a masters degree. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dude...you don't need to take the MCATs again. Your score is fine. First off, maybe the reason you didn't get in was that you didn't apply to a bunch of schools. Or, the schools you applied to were all really hard to get into. If that is not the case, and you really did apply to a wide plethora of schools, I'd say that you might want to strengthen your GPA and extracurricular activites. Do a post bac program. But this is all assuming you did not apply to a wide variety of med schools.

first of all, talk to a pre med advisor. then work on bringing up your GPA by taking science courses as a post bac student. but post bac medical programs are super expensive and don't guarentee you anything! work on quality extracurriculars like being an EMT and ones that are innovative like travelling aboard. MCAT is okay. apply to lower tier schools and more schools after a few years of this.

Agree with the above poster. If you did not apply to enough schools with a broad net then you should reapply and correct that error. If on the other hand you did apply to a wide range of schools then your problem lies elsewhere. Either way, I would call all the schools that rejected me and ask if they could please let you know what you need to do to strengthen your application (aka what kept you out). I would recommend taking upper level bio and chem classes (to up your undergrad gpa) versus a grad program. Good luck!

don't worry about your GPA. it isn't worth it to spent money and time taking even more classes. just apply to a bunch of school, and make sure you have superb interviewing skills. trust me. you'll be fine.

i also forgot to say, it's helps a lot if you're an URM, and if you went to a prestigious undergrad institution

DON"T retake the MCAT your scores are just fine! Work on the other aspects of your application i.e. personal statement, and volunteer work.

I agree that you don't need to retake the MCAT, but unless you're a URM or an absolute stand-out in some way, then you do need to work on the GPA.

MCAT is fine. How many schools did you apply to?

I hope that you applied to you state schools. Also, you MCATs are fine, you just need to increase GPA or do some sort of post-bac. Personally, I would not advise anyone to go to their premed advisor since some give horrible advice (personal experience). But good luck.
