I’m sorry you’re going through this dude.

I will say, please go talk to a therapist or someone about this. I went and talked to someone about my divorce and that’s honesty less of a blow than this.

There are lots of ways to serve the world other than being a physician. You’re not a failure. Don’t beat yourself up.

I can withdraw and reapply but will have to start over

Withdrawing is not nearly as bad as a dismissal, but you also have to realize that ADCOMs will see this and it will be a huge red flag. What makes you think you would be able to handle medical school any differently the 2nd time around? This is not meant to be an attack on you, but merely to make you truly think about the situation and why you would want to consider trying again. You are talking about a lot of time and money that would be going into this. There are lots of other career options out there like PA or NP.

I definitely understand. I had a lot going on health wise and I was accepted quite late in the cycle and had to move fast. Did not really have enough time to really get everything sorted out which was not a good idea. I believe I can successfully do this

Assuming this was all academic and not related to professionalism, you could try reapplying once and strongly emphasize in your application the reinvention aspect. Talk about the issues you faced and how you’re in a better place now. Strong letters from faculty at your current school would definitely help support that. Withdrawal would also look better than dismissal, so if the situation is unlikely to change on appeal, you may wanna withdraw. I’m not involved in admissions, but I would assume that if you didn’t get in again after one try despite a smart application strategy, it would probably be time to call it for med school. Your application would be unlikely to get significantly stronger thereafter.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been in a somewhat similar situation and know that it really makes things feel hopeless. No matter how this turns out, your life will go on. You can have a wonderful professional life even if it’s not as a physician.
