Hi guys! I was wondering if someone had an opinion on my situation. I just passed step 1 (195/80), failed step 2, then passed with a 199/81. I applied for 2010 late october when my score was released, I got 4 interviews (peds), and did not match. I was thinking about taking step 3 in June so my score would be ready for september, but I'm not sure how much having my score would actually help my application. I am doing research this year, so I have something new to talk about. Please let me know what you all think.

Don't take step 3 unless based on your practice scores on world or other qbanks you are pretty sure you will pass it. If you fail that one lots of programs will steer clear of you because there are limits to how many times you can fail any of the steps in a lot of states, and neither of your first two tests were particularly impressive scores even excluding the failure. That being said, one of the bigger concerns from your numbers has to be that you won't be able to get licensed. So if you can pass step 3, that will allay a lot of fears. So it might be a decent strategy for you to pass it. But only take it if you are pretty darn sure you will pass it. It's thus a kind of dangerous maneuver -- can help you or screw you a lot.

Thanks so much for your reply. As of now I am just passing according to NBME and the UW assessment. I was thinking of pushing it back but I can only extend it for 90 days which would put me at mid september as the latest possible time I could take it. I don't know if I have it pending when I apply september 1, if programs would wait on that score to grant me an interview. Or maybe I should re-registar and just take it in november or something. Ahhh, I feel lost.
