Hey all!

I am a senior graduating in may with a bachelors in behavioral neuroscience psychology. I have most of my general requirements for optometry school, however, I still need to take organic chemistry, microbiology, and biochemistry. My GPA is not the greatest, however, I've held at least 1 job every semester and for the past year and a half I have been working for a private practice. I've also been very active on my campus through being in the sorority and in charge of many philanthropic events every year.

My issue is...

I am not sure what to do next. I have yet to take the OAT, due to me not completing all of my pre-optometry requirements. I know for sure that I need to continue on with getting those requirements down, as well as, possibly taking a few higher level science courses so I can boost my GPA. I was wondering what suggests you all might have. Should I continue at my current university or should I go to one of the schools that offer an optometry program so they can see that I work well in their university. For instance, I could go to IU, take the rest of my required classes and then apply to their optometry program. Thoughts or any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!!

I don't think it's necessary to move to a school with optometry program, but you certainly want to get good grade for the rest of your classes to show opt schools that you are capable of handling hard science classes. I'd cut back on some extracurricular activities if they interfere with your study because GPA and OAT should be your first priority if you are serious about optometry school. While those extracurricular activities might provide a nice bonus to your application and good conversation topics on your interview, good GPA and OAT are the footsteps to get you the interview. Good luck on your studies.
