Hi,

I wish to apply to GPR or AEGD program. I have been looking online and have found that many require a degree from a CODA school (ie. North American degree).

My question is are there schools which allow foreign dentists to apply to these programs. I have already passed NBDE 1+2.

My main goal is to gain a license to practice in any state.

Thanks for all your help, hope someone can offer me advice.

These schools accept non-CODA accredited degrees and don't require NBDE

AEGD: Marquette, BU, Michingan, Conn, UMB
There are other schools that accept your cert. but require passing part I or Part I&II
review each school AEGD's website carefully

GPR: McGill

Most GPR programs in the US require citizenship or permanent residency

See this link for licensure http://www.ada.org/492.aspx

If that is your goal then I believe you will need to do an IDP and obtain your DDS/DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school. Only a few states will allow you to practice with an international degree, even after completing a GPR or AEGD.

But I read after 5 years old holding a state dental license you can practice anywhere in US

There are states that grant reciprocity after 5 years but it is not all states. You should look into the laws of the specific state(s) you want you practice in (make sure they not not require a D.D.S./D.M.D.). Also for those five years, you will be limited to few states you can practice in.

Do I contact the state dental board to get this information? I could not find it on the dental board websites..

There is a PDF file somewhere on the ADA.org website where it shows the licensing requirements for each state. I think there are 7 or 8 states where you can practice without a dds/dmd if you do 2 years of postgrad training (e.g. Gpr and aegd). Acceptance in those programs is pretty competitive though for international applicants. Try looking that up.

And for the reciprocity after 5 years in other states. It means you don't have to do licensing exams to transfer after 5 years (nerb, wreb..etc), but you still have to have a dds/dmd from a coda accredited school.

Oh. Ok thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Do you have the pdf file?
I use to have it but now I can`t find it on the ada,it seems like it was removed from there.
I know couple of the states but I can`t figure it out all of them 🙁
