Aerospace Physiologist

What are the requirements to become an aerospace physiologist? Do you have to go to medical school for this? I know of the USAF program, but I was looking for something outside of the Air Force or Armed Services. Any advice would be great on how to get started in this field. I read a lot about the subject but I would like some clinical observation experience.

This is a very tiny field outside of the military, and in my experience generally limited to GPs that do the official flight physicals for civil pilots. Airlines might have a more in depth medical staff that follows their pilots, but I do not have experience with that. Civil aviation has VERY LITTLE PHYSIOLOGICAL strain.

Furthermore, many civil "Flight Surgeons" I've come across came from the military originally.

For this career, it is definitely best to pass through the military.

This is NOT really a research-based career.

Flight surgeons are MDs or DOs that have done an aviation physiology residency. Of course there are also flight nurses, who are the aviation physiology counterpart of RNs and NPs.
