After reviewing the 2009 report of AF residency matches (military and civilian), I noted that the military residency appointments vastly outweighed the granted civilian deferments. For example, internal medicine had 48 slots filled, only 10 of which were civilian deferments.
My question: Do most HPSP applicants prefer the military residencies (more pay, better hours, etc) and strive for those positions OR do those 10 deferments go to the top 10 applicants and the military slots to the rest of the applicants.
Subjective thoughts welcome.
