After you graduate from Dental school, must you go onto a specialty/residency to be able to practice general dentistry? Or are you certified to start work right from the get-go?

You can start practicing general dentistry as soon as you pass the boards and receive your license. No residency is required, but some graduates do so in order to get more experience. Specialties are only for the top 5% or so of the class, if they choose to go into it.
