Can you work as GD and try to obtain your Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon degree?

Yes, you can work as a general dentist (GD?) after receiving your DDS/DMD and passing your boards.
If you're interested in becoming an oral surgeon, you'd need to further apply for a residency in OMFS. I believe you can use the PASS system through the ADEA to apply:

Also, you do not receive a degree in OMFS, you receive a certificate, or a masters degree in a related field in dentistry (such as oral biology), OR if you're attending a 6-year program, an MD.

This would actually be called moonlighting because as an OMFS resident you are employed by the hospital that you work with. Some programs look down on it some do not. Either way, you will be pretty busy and may only be able to work 1-2 saturdays a month due to time restraints. It is not like dental school at all. You go to work at like 5:30 a.m., leave? (when the work is done), you are on call a lot, you are studying, reading, making presentations, running clinics, doing off service rotations in things like anesthesia, surgery, medicine. Some residents do it but not a lot.
