what do you do after a test? do you go back and look into the answers that you didnt answer... or simply go out and completely forget about the test.. or do you have a review class of the test conducted?

and how do you rate yourself after the test?

is it by the pass percentage that you look into to rate yourself with or the highest mark scored?

what do you think is the best thing to look into to rate oneself with? (to know where one stand....)

I usually try to avoid the second-guessing on the correct answers for questions that gave me problems until the key is posted later in the day. After that I take note of the questions I got wrong, decide if any of them are worth challenging, and move on with studying for the next exam.

Usually I end up rating myself by the class mean and standard deviation that is reported to us. I have an idea of where I should fall in that whole scheme based on past performance and I shoot for that position on every test I take.

If the test was a really difficult one, I'll try to look at board review books or First Aid to get an idea of whether I came away from the material learning the most important points. If I did, I chalk the exam up to professors writing a poor exam or teaching material that is not all that pertinent to Step 1 and just forget about it.

I don't check answers until:

1) After a break if there is a break after the exam period. Why ruin a vacation knowing you bombed your exam and how hard you will have to bust ass when you get back?

2) The curve, t-score, adjustment is released. When a 68/75 could be adjusted to an A, B, or C what's the point in knowing a raw score?

3) if I think a question on the exam is poorly written or bogus and plan to contest it. I have only done this twice though in 5 and a half years of higher education.

and to rate myself I simply ask this:

Did I work as hard as I could with in the limits of my other classes, physical and mental well being?


If yes, then happy.

If no, then disappointed.


The score is inconsequential to how I feel I performed.

That's a really good point. If you went really poorly on a test (score-wise) but you worked your absolute arse off for it, then it really doesn't matter and you should be satisfied with your result (and obviously looking for ways to improve next time).

If you sat on your arse the whole time and somehow aced the test, then you've learned nothing.

When a test is over my friends and I will inevitably discuss it in detail for at least a day. It satisfies that instinct to get some sort of instant feedback, whether accurate or not.

I always gauge my success based on class average. I already know going into the test if I studied hard enough or not. If I know I studied my hardest and I still score below the average then I know that I need to change something to be more effective... or I could just be stupid.

I absolutely refuse to discuss any detail of the test post exam. I leave conversations when people bring stuff like this up. This has been my policy since pretty early in undergrad. It's over. There's no point in stressing about it until you get a grade back.

I sometimes discuss answers and questions after a test, but this quickly becomes annoying when I realize how many stupid mistakes I made. Also, I don't give two piles of steaming dog crap about class average. As long as I pass it, I'm relatively happy...anything beyond that is pure icing on the cake for me.

Also, I tend to drink heavily. I figured I punished my mind for weeks studying, I might as well punish my body as well.

we have this girl who asks questions all the time - i mean ALL the time.
and yeah she is okay in her studies

we had our orals today and we all managed to answer the questions somehow. this girl, i think she didnt learn well for some reason so she answered only a few questions and some of the answers she gave were wrong too. many of us did really well than her. and when the results were put up....she had the highest score among us!!!😡 😡 😡

we were all so angry and mad at the prof ... she really doesnt deserve that score... i am so at my end. (i never liked that girl)

i really wonder that if i had asked some questions; may be the profs would have thought me as intelligent and would have given me some high scores..
thats what happened in this case and i still cannot accept it...😡

this happens more often......(in all other departments- she is like the brilliant one of our class among the lectures)

does this happen in your place? like the profs always preferring the person who asks silly questions all the time and does unwanted things to prove themselves to be the best which they are not.

Hem-Onc is brutal all around. Our class averages are usually around 88 or so in pathology, and for that test we were all the way down to the lower 70s. Huge drop.

Before any exam, I set a goal. Then, I almost always double check after I finish an exam. For the questions that I don't know the answers to, I will make educated guesses. I try not to compare myself to other people but continue to challenge myself against myself 😀

If I don't achieve that goal, I will evaluate myself and try a new study strategy. Usually, I let myself easy on the first exam.

After that, all hell is loose
