After putting up a lot of wasted money, wasted time, and a whole lot of stress and then getting a rejection from a medical school, are you willing to do the process over again to fulfull your dreams?

Yep, I'm doing it. All the time effort and money spent last year made me really reconsider, but I found I really wanted it, so ROUND 2.......

Do sho, i spent over $2,000 last yr, and doing it again. As far as my broke a$$ is concerned, its a small price to pay to get to my goal. It toughens u up, u'll always need to know how to deal with rejections in life. But u cant ever let that stop u from tryin to get to what u want.
I didnt even think about the money and after a while, stopped keepin track. It makes the acceptance even sweeter cause u know u worked HARD for it. Even if its to PODUNKADUNK Medical SChool 😛

Well, I don't know. For me I have applied to like, 25 + schools. So far five rejections, 1 interview and the rest are complete but silent. (Is that the right term?)

I have to be sensible here, if I don't get into over 25 schools of all ranges and regions, then I might retake the MCAT, or do something else. But I might not. I mean, I have good stats and decent EC's and all kinds of other nice qualities as a person - 😀

But I don't know what else would really change about me between now and a year from now. It's also not like I am 22 and it would be a good thing to simply become a year older. I'm already mature and experienced, so this is pretty much who I am now 🙂

I've done years worth of volunteering, and I'm doing an AmeriCorps this year so I would hope that adcoms are recognizing the value of that. But after all this and no offer - I'm not sure what I would do.

Just my 0.02.

Anyone else ?

i would try again. i mean, being a doc is what i've always wanted, adn i'm not gonna let a little thing like a rejection stop me. course, if you don't want to reapply, you can always steal someone's identity and become a doctor that way. it's a lot cheaper and easier, unless of course you get caught. 😀

Can anyone say, DO?

Third year of applying and I'm in...

finally

Ok, maybe I'm just feeling depressed since I received even more rejection letters today in the mail (Dartmouth, Rochester).

Three tries, XCanadian? Maybe I would try again. I'll have to wait and see.

if you are qualified and have a strong desire to become a doctor, i think you should apply again. there is so much luck involved, and there are simply not enough spots for every qualified person to be admitted. on top of that, i'm sure plenty of spots go to less qualified people since it is really difficult for schools to distinguish between people and schools like to get a diverse class, which could lead to somoene who is qualified not fitting the particular niche the school needs to fill.
if you are not qualified (e.g. mcat <25, gpa < 3.3) and have the strong desire to become a doctor, i don't think reapplication is the best thing unless you strengthen your application. in my opinion a person in this situation should reevaluate their goals and consider other options unless they are willing to improve their numbers.

Yup three tries...but when the acceptance letter came it was worth those three years

The secret is to fix whatever was wrong with your app between the application cycles. Simply just reapplying probably won't get you in anywhere.

For me, if I have to stick around another year it's ok. That means I'll get to study jazz a little longer at my university. If I am accepted, I might even defer for a year so I won't have to (a) leave my fiance and (b) get to study jazz for another year. Outside of school, my life is basically martial arts and music.

Seriously, I don't think I'll be applying again next year if I don't get in this year. I'll take it as a sign from God that I should find a different career... 😳

Just so you guys know, XCanadian is talking about being accepted to a DO school.😉

If I didn't get accepted this year, I would definitely apply again, and this after applying to about 30 schools as a CA resident. I've had one interview already, have one more scheduled, and am hoping for a few more.

Sounds crazy, but I'm convinced that the single biggest thing I could do to improve my chances if I have to apply again is to move to another state and go for the state schools there. If I have no acceptances, I am definitely planning to leave California next summer and go somewhere where the state schools will at least consider my application!

It took me many years to muster the determination to apply, and I'm absolutely committed to attending medical school. I won't stop until I'm accepted, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I won't be deterred.

why was it necessary to make that distinction? 😕

I applied to 9 schools last year and was rejected from all of them.

This year, I applied to 20 and got into Tulane.

Reapplying is worth the money and effort.

Do it.

Because most of you people who apply again and again don't consider DO schools, which is a grave mistake I believe.

Anyways, Kiernin I highly doubt you being a CA resident has anything to do with it. I applied to 31 schools as a CA resident and have had much success with average stats.

The key is applying early with decent numbers and decent ECs. It's not about where you live.

Thats the spirit!

Kiernin you shouldn't worry about re-applying right now. One interview can very easily mean one acceptance. And with your determination i think that chances are really high.

Best of luck!

well.. i didn't let 26 rejections get me down last year.... i got my 27th today.... 🙁 but i ain't givin' up~!!!!!!!!!!!

Willing, yes. Financially solvent, no.
