Hey gang,
Iv searched this section but didnt find the answer.
I am a non-trad with a BS in ultrasound that was just accepted into a 4yr to finish up Chem2, Orgo1/2 and Physics2 to satisfy prereq courses. Im hoping to take Chem2 and Physics2 this spring, Orgo1 in the summer, Orgo2 in the fall and take microbiology somewhere in there.
Someone told me what they teach you in orgo2 isnt really on the exam so I was thinking of begining my hardcore prep(kaplan) in the fall during orgo2.

Doable? or should I take orgo2 and then do a kaplan course?

I would recommend being done with Physics 2 and Organic 2. You might see both on the test. I know that I would have not understood somethings on my MCAT if I had not had Org 2, so whoever is saying that probably isn't entirely accurate. I would say that any topic that might arise may contain some of the knowledge of certain reactions that you might cover in Org 2.

Regardless, safest to cover your bases before taking.

I would say you will definitely see something from Physics II, and orgo II topics are all over the AAMC list of testable topics, orgo II is in my opinion one of the most important classes you can take because it lays a framework for how molecules interact with each other in the cell, biochem does the same and orgo II spends a good amount of time on the interaction between classes of molecules often present in the cell. Orgo II may not receive a large amount of questions on the MCAT however I think that it will certainly engage you in a style of thinking that will be invaluable for the biological science section.

While a lot of people suggest taking every course beforehand, it is doable without Phys II. I have no idea about how difficult it would be to study for organic on your own, but I had no problems with Phys II. I made a 10 in PS my first take, and an 11 my second time - without ever having physics II. It really depends on the type of learner you are. I found physics II (at least the part that is on the MCAT) to be easy-ish to learn on my own. I used EK to narrow down the topics I really struggled with, and used BR to nail them. If you decide to take the MCAT without taking physics II I would highly recommend EK and BR. BR is especially helpful at explaining difficult concepts, and providing lots of practice material.

Hope that helps.
