Well, I haven't wanted to post anything before about my 'stats' (don't count your chickens...), but I am thrilled to get my acceptance to Governors State!
It has been a long 5-year (!) process, which included getting into and then dismissed from PT school - but I never gave up hope for a career change from 20 years in IT.
It also has honestly been sometimes discouraging to read this forum about students with near-4.0 GPA's getting in everywhere, and many people discussing getting accepted at larger schools...so far, I think I am the only one of three people on SDN that even considered Governors State who got in.
What I would like to get across here is that if you are: an older student, or a (very disparate) career-changer, or someone who didn't excel in undergrad, or has a negative strike like dismissal from PT school - don't think you can't do this. You most certainly can. It takes time and determination to build up observation and work experience, personal OT/referral connections, and taking enough pre-reqs to offset undergrad, but I am so glad it paid off for me.
This has been said before, but I'll repeat it again: take the time to do your research about schools - which ones match the qualities that you bring to the table, look into schools that may not necessarily be the 'popular' ones to apply at - but look at the whole of your application, and if you find one you really like, try to tailor your approach to meet their qualifications. Last year was my first year to apply - I sent out to a bunch of schools kind of late and randomly and didn't hear back from any...
Good luck to everyone - and never give up!
