Age limit when joining the military

you can get waivers for pretty much anything. assuming you are mostly healthy and can perform a skill that the army needs, then probably so.

I just finished up with Commissioned Officer Training for the Air Force. There were two older dentists there, the oldest was coming in at age 58! The other was probably at least 45. So I'm positive you could get on with the military at 40. 🙂 Good Luck!

Ya and those two older dentists were directly promoted to Lt Col, so it was a pretty nice deal

Thank you for the advice. Do you know if the waivers/exceptions are similar for National Guard as well?

I heard of older dentist and physicians joining. They generally get commissioned with a higher rank i.e. lieutenant colonel. It makes me wonder though why they would want to join a military so late.😕

I am currently in Officer Basic Training, and there is a 53 year old dentist with no prior service. He came in as a MAJ

Yes - waivers do occur. Yes your rank can be influenced by specialty training you have had as well as how long you have practiced. Without any Post grad training - you may only come in as a Captain. Realize that there will be some dentists younger than you that may be your supervisor.

Best thing to do is talk to the recruiter of the branch/organization you are interested in - Navy, AF, Army, Reserve, Guard - they will have the specifics for what is required.
