Nurse calls down, patient has been on Aggrenox for a while now and just had a PEG tube placed today. Order is still there for Aggrenox 1 cap PO BID. In this case, the order gets automodified to Aggrenox 1 cap via pegtube BID. Nurse is asking if she can open up the capsule and put the contents down the PEG tube? I'm hearing yes and no from different sources online.

Now technically, we have dipyridamole tablets and we have aspirin (lowest dose is 81 mg). The dose of Aggrenox is 200 mg dipyridamole/25 mg aspirin. What's our options?

We did Budesonide before and it clogged the tube.

Yeah, that doesn't mean anything. Some capsules can be opened and put in a tube, some can't...I'm not sure how you think the budesonide is relevant here.

We ended up dc/ing Aggrenox and entering separate orders for Dipyridamole 200 mg BID and Aspirin 81 mg daily.
That seems therapeutically appropriate (and cost effective) to me.
