Hi,

I am currently talking with an Air Force Recruiter for the HPSP scholarship, hoping to enter Dent School in August 2008. I have seen alot on these threads from Army and Navy Dentists, but not from Air Force dentists. I was hoping to get some feedback from people currently practicing as AF dentists. Also, it it pretty easy to transition from military dentistry to private practice??? Any info you could give would be appreciated! 🙂

I am going to add my questions to this thread created by dentalizzy.
Roughly how many people end up applying for the Air Force HPSP?
I've been told that they give out about 95ish (includes 2, 3, and 4 yrs) every year.

Well, good luck to us to get someone to respond to this post 😴... it's been awhile since I started it... anyway, i think if you are not in dental school yet (like me, entering *hopefully* fall 08) that you can hold a spot if you get with your recruiter and you have the right DAT and GPA (19 and 3.5 I've heard) and this goes along with what my recruiter has been saying/doing. About the numbers, i have no idea, just to start early with the recruiter 🙂 Good luck!

I think I have responded to this type of question 20 times already. Search all the previous topics in this area. But They all are very similar. I am in the AF HPSP right now and I can tell you that the AF treats their officers better than any of the other services in the military. and have better housing. They have more money to spend on them. And their is no need to go practice in a tent overseas, or on a carrier, only in a nice comfy ac'd base.🙂

the AF has 85 scholarships to give out for 2008. I believe it is 50 4-year and 35 3-year. I'm told they are no longer offering 2-year scholarships.
