Unsure if you guys heard but apparently TeamHealth is taking over his hospital and the hospital has asked/informed TH not to hire him. Al is a gifted educator. Word on the street is that this is due to him bringing up patient safety issues.

This my friends is another example of why CMGs suck. Their loyalty is to the hospital and you are just a cog.

Sure. The hospital is the issue.. Teamhealth is the vehicle though. This model allows hospitals to bypass due process. TeamHealth can tell the hospital to kick rocks (my SDG did this) and support the EM doc.

My main point is this is a less discussed issue of CMGs. this is not a new issue.

I know he’s a darling of the EM:RAP folks. I haven’t subscribed in over a year, but are they vocal about CMGs and PE? (I suspect I already know the answer.)

No doubt. I’d also be curious what the situation was. Was it a private group that staffed the hospital initially? It seems that many times the hospital will get someone new in a position of power who has a previous relationship with a CMG and that’s how this ball gets rolling.

I don’t know Sachheti personally but I’d bet almost everyone recognizes his voice. You can’t argue he’s a great educator and his resume suggests he’s a very good clinician, too. I hope like hell he shines some light on this. Legal or not, it’s still horsesh*t.

It happens with private groups too. A friend of mine told me about it happening to a vascular surgeon at another health system. Hospital basically told the private group that the surgeon needed to go so they fired him.

They (MBAs) own the sandbox real estate (hospital) and thus get to pick who gets to play. We all just have a sandcastle that they can stomp on.

I can't really see my SDG sticking up for a partner who the hospital wanted gone. Medicine sucks in general.

His shop seemed like a sweatshop and had been for years. It also had been a CMG for many years. If TeamHealth is taking over, then it was envision/emcare previously. I worked with a bunch of docs who had worked in his ED, and they almost uniformly disliked it. The one thing that seemed like a plus for the department was that the nurses were really well adapted to all the procedures that were done there and therefore it was pretty efficient.
