Hi y'all,
I am trapped with my loans from pharmacy school and I just read this post on $1 million for a 3 years contract in Alaska. I am ready to quite my job now to take this contract. Is there anyone in here who knows about this or/and has a lead. I would appreciate any heads up.

A year? Alaska pays a little more in bonuses, but not that much. My uncle lives in Alaska so i have looked at many jobs out there(pharmacy jobs). Salaries are no where near that amount. Google "pharmacy jobs in Alaska", and you will get a few websites with pharmacy jobs in Alaska.😀

That's lower than a typical wage. Typical wage would be $500k for 5 years...

Avoiding any more information being passed by sea lawyers - here is what is being offered on Monster for the FAR North - ie the most remote locals in Alaska...

Very good benefits + plus a nice sign on bonus and starts at 115k/ yr - but cracking a million in 3 yrs is less than likely.

i'd rather work 70 hours/week than to relocate to the middle of alaska. you could make close to 200k working that many hours.

I keep hearing this from people but I am going to go ahead and say this is BS. Think about it? $1,000,000 for 3 years is more then $300,000 per year. dont you think a ton of people would have moved there already and the shortage would be over? And if this were true, I am sure there would be some kind of documentation- A monster.com ad, new artical, SOMETHING!

I think this is a case of a rumor spreading farther then it should have

The most I have seen was 180k/year with a 40k sign on bonus. There are plenty of places that pay around 125k for a staff pharmacist and will give overtime as well. In some cases it is far more beneficial to look at the state tax laws first and then look for high paying jobs within those states. Even at 100k a years state tax laws can make as much as a 10k difference in your take home pay, and this does not even include property tax benefits. Research a bit and you might be able to make 15k or more a year just by living in a different state and that goes a long way toward your loans without being stuck in an icy cold hell. 🙂

Thanks for all of your input on this. My husband is a pharmacist in Florida with a major chain. He makes a decent salary. He is currently on a leave of absence, was diagnosed with cancer, and I heard about this Alaska thing from the aunt of a student at West Virginia University. Apparently someone came there recruiting.

Anyway my husband got his hopes up and is ready to move to Alaska once he kicks this awful cancer. I agree it sounds too good to be true. I personally am not into moving to a place that will be that cold, but am willing to endure it for 5 years if it means we'd be millionaires after the first 3.

$365K per year is a lot of money to walk away from for a little bit of cold weather. From experience, the overtime will wear you out faster than 5 years in the cold ever could.
