You all must be sick of these posts about asking opinions on schools, but I need them desperately... would you all give me what your preferences would be if you had these choices.

Currently I am in UIC (UR) and happily planning to attend, but I wanted to give myself a final thought before I withdraw from waiting list at Albany and Pitt. I'll be in another state for the month of July, so if I get off the waitinglist after June, it's going to be a pain.

Are you from IL? Also, going to Urbana, are you in the medical scholars program or MD/PhD?

Personally, I think it would be a difficult decision between UIC and Pitt.

No... I'm from PA. I'm in Urbana-Rockford track. Since I am not an IL resident, I thought I had no chance at UIC and had sent a letter of intention to Pitt... the day I sent it, when I came home I had a letter from UIC! I am really happy, but because of the letter I had sent in I feel obligated to take Pitt if I am accepted... at the same time I called the adm office like ten times and they were so nice about everything and feel happy about UIC... oh what to do what to do. Maybe it won't even be a problem if I am not off the Pitt waitlist but I need to prepare myself "in case".

I did like Pitt very much as well. My interviewer was very nice, and school was quite impressive. HELP!!!!!!

I am in basically the same situation - in at UIC and waitlisted at Pitt. I am 99% sure I am headed to UIC even if I get off Pitts waiting list. I loved both places and although Pitt more renowned in the medical world I think I will have many of the same opportunities coming from UIC. Both have excellent research opportunities, but you actually get paid to do research (6K-10K a year) at UIC. The one complaint I always here on SDN is that the administration plays hard to get. I havent felt this vibe at atll and they have been more than accomodating to me. I am guessing they might get that rep b/c they dont give decisions over the phone and make people wait (which does suck, but I can understand why they do it). Plus UIC is a lot cheaper in the first place (for me at least b/c I am in state). If I were in your situation, however, I might choose Pitt b/c te cost difference would be negligable.

Oh I live in Rockford too. THe town sucks but the students seems to love the campus and school. SInce it is a smaller town and there arent many residents the med students basically get resident exposure.

I personally would have chosen Rush over UIC had I not gotten Chicago. But that may be because I have live in Rockford all my life and have a girlfriend going to school in chicago.

Thanks for both of your opinions. I guess it's one of those things that I'll have to "see what happens". Any opinions on Albany? or Drexel?

From what little I know (mostly gleaned from here, so grain of salt in order), Albany is not even in the same league as UIC or Pitt. So I would pare it down to UIC and Pitt. Why do you think getting in off the waitlist at Pitt would cause so much chaos? You'd probably just be out a month's worth of rent in Chicago, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Just don't move in until you have to.

That's true. What's a small hassle as long as I'm in!

I'm worried too much about small details. I took the military scholarship so I need to be in AL this July, and supposivingly after June 15th I need committee approval before changing schools. Not to mention moving all my stuff out of Philly into NYC (home) for the time being, since I won't be taking most my stuff to IL. Top it all off I gave in my resignation letter yesterday, so I need to work out health ins, pension, vacation pay and all the good stuff this week... Which is still a hassle to deal with regardless of which school I go to, but not having set my mind adds some additional stress...

Had I not found SDN, I would have gone out of my mind! Thanks everyone for good advises.

Tell us how it goes/what you pick. Then hey, maybe the UIC SDNers can meet up some place-- bar, cubs/sox game, or something like that...

Hey that sounds like a fun idea. I'm definitely in. Sorry if I missed your bkg earlier - I gather you are in UIC? If so, which campus?
