ok so i havent been in a target in a while so when i saw the new shorter pharmacy hours i was kinda wowed. whats going on? they cutting back?

also, i heard @ target only the pic is full time. that true?

yes a colleague of mine who works there has told me that some of the slower target pharmacies are cutting their operating hours to like 60 something hours a week instead of the usual 80 something. Which means there will only be one PIC and the other RPh will only have 25 hours a week at that store.

Not looking good

Yeah, they are cutting hours at some of the slower stores (including mine). We will have 1 full time pharmacy manager and 1 part-time pharmacist. The part time pharmacist is going to float at other stores, to have a full 40 hour week.

It hasn't started yet at my store though. April 5th is the 1st day, I think.

The thing here is that with the reduced operating hours, somebody has to go. Even if they are only doing this to a few stores, the other RPh will have to scramble for the other 15 hours a week, which means less hours to go around for the floaters/PRN/part-timers.

wow that sucks monkey balls. without regulars there all the time how do they expect you to build patient rapport?
...cuz i thought that was what target likes to have the rphs do, focus on service and stuff

unfortunately it comes down to the bottom line. With target being in that $4 generic program it now requires more scripts filled to make a profit since the margin is lower. and with many of the target stores doing less than 100 Rx per day, (the one that I did my rotations did about 400 a week) its hard to pull out a profit. obviously with target the pharmacy department is really just there to have the customers shop at Target and be repeat customers when they come in to get their refills, plain and simple.

on the other hand i do imagine the hours to go back to normal once the economy stabilizes

They are optimizing a bunch of stores. The PIC remains full time at 42 hours a week and the staff pharmacist is 22 hours at the store at 22 hours float, or they can go part time.

They are doing this in the interest of "work-life" balance, but it is anything but. Currently, a pharmacist is two on two off, every other weekend with overlap on Monday. Under the new plan there is no overlap, so the PIC is expected to go in on days off to manage team. On top of that since the hours are reduced, you are essentially there an extra day and half to get your 84 hours. Before your rotation would look like this:

Week 1: Work M T F S
Week 2: Work Su M(overlap) W Th

Under the new plan PICs do this

Week 1: Work M T Th F S
Week 2: Work Su M T Th

And PIC has to come in on off days to manage team. Work-life balance is out the window.

well i guess if you do under 100 a day you can pull long shifts no problemo...and target used to look so good too

the only problem is that you're not given much help, maybe one full time tech, and their system of putting together an rx order is a pain in the ass

you have to like stage the bag (write down pt name, birthday?) as well as make sure that you put the right color ring on the bottle.

labeling that damn bottle was like an art project with all the folding and sliding the auxilliary labels in

We're doing more scripts than ever (400-500 Rxs/day) and finally getting some of our cut hours back.

Thank god, I don't work for Target or they would be sending me all over the places.

I don't think I've ever said this before but Target is the bomb yo. Good looking stay home moms shop there and you get an awesome employee discount!! That's one retail I would consider.

Just as long as you match the right color ring to the right bottle.

thats like walgreens numbers. how did any target pull that off?

and what's with the rings? how many colors and what they stand for?

6 ring colors: purple, yellow, red, blue, green, and orange.

Each family member gets a different color ring, to minimize confusion on meds.

My Target does less than 700/WEEK.

Walmart is the cause of the destruction of retail. Other chains followed their lead. Everyone loves Walmart until it affects their job or they are forced to work for them.

North Dakota has proven that keeping the big chains from taking over works. Pharmacies have to be pharmacist owned in that state.

Guess what, they also happen to have low average Rx prices compared to the national average.

Thanks for the news flash

Proof positive that what's best for the individual, e.g., the cheapest product; is not always best for the collective.

Americans will do whatever they feel benefits them the most whether it's buying imported **** at Wal-Mart from China or buying foreign cars that don't have the personell costs like domestics...

...and of course it's never the consumers fault, it's the domestic producers fault...

...meanwhile wages in the US will continue to be eroded as "globalization" extends it's reach into every sector of the US.

And people wonder why there was a "Buy American" clause in the stimulus bill. Any person with a lick of common sense can see globalization does not benefit the richest country in the world over the long-term. Sure, you get your cheap **** in the short-term, but 20 years later when your wages have been flat when adjusted for inflation...do you really see the effects of globalization.

about the foreign cars... if somebody buys an "American car" only because it's made domestically and not because of style/reliability... thats just foolish on their part. the american auto industry is the way it is today because other countries have made better quality products at lower prices.

We are in a global recession and you think global trade retaliation would benefit us? Didn't they try that in the 1930s and it became a depression?

Simple minded people think things in simple terms. Perhaps you should post under your real screen name but you are too embarrassed to let people know who you really are.
