Hello guys - this is my first post here.

Just wanted to say I was very excited to find that kind of forum for medical students, which I currently am 🙂

I was talking to one specialist the other day and she said, that almost all students (more than 90 percent) from any field have similar challenges during their study and that there are only 5 major areas, that can cause problems:

The most prevalent and important is personal motivation (or lack of such), then goes adaptability and self-organization, then ability to concentrate on certain tasks and the last on was learning itself (or absorption, digestion and remembering of a learning material)

What do you think about that ?

I want to know as many opinions as possible, because I couldn`t believe, that with all diversity and huge amount of my problems they can be categorized in one of these 5 categories

Right now my biggest annoying habits are "I can do it later" mechanism, which causes a bunch of cramming the night before the exam and the feact, that I burn out after several hours in cramming session and continue to byheart the rest of material without a good sense, of what am I learning...

Does anyone has similar problems ? Which habits or proccesses are the most irritative for you ?

Yeah, me too. this is my second post here. I hope to find good friends here...

well, Im not impressed, because its really true. I see it. when me and my colleagues talk about our problems, we are talking about the same issues...
well, the I can do it later mechanism that you said is really the biggest problem of so many people, not just students... i have it too 😛

also in my country, the most prevalent issue is lack of motivation...
im cant concentrate well enough most of the times...

not only the problems are the same, even what they think in the same situation is mostly the same...

Really ? Like what ? I think usually that I am a lazyass (thank you parents !) or rationalize that I am just too tired today and it is not that urgent, untill the deadline knocks on my door and I start working only to find a huge amount of work to be done in a very little time and there they come - Mr. Overwhelming and Mrs. Panik 😀

Don`t think that many have the same pattern, although... I could be wrong 🙂 Do they ?

i only had one problem with studying. i didnt like to study period.

My only problem is motivation. If I enjoy a subject, I can focus for hours on end. Like last night, I was working on my immunology take home final till 3am without coffee and didn't even notice how late it was getting till I was halfway done with the exam. But with subjects I don't like, I have to find a bridge to make me like them. For instance, when I took organic chemistry, I read an Oppenheimer biography and a book called, "Napoleon's Buttons: How 17 Molecules Changed History". If I can find a bridge, I can learn anything.

One of the best books I have ever read.

Totally and utterly off-topic, but what school do you go to? I ask because your username immediately made me think of one my classmates.

One thing that bugs me the most is having to listen to people talk about how they studied so much more than I did, and how they do so much better than me on exams. Before finals, they'll say stuff like "Oh, I've scored high enough on my exams, so I don't have to worry." That makes me think 'it must be nice for you, but can you quiet down so I can study?'

i'm asian...

i start studying 3 weeks before an exam
then pull an all-night day before exam

i am asian and i never pull an all-night for exam, never.
sleep is more important.

I attempted an all-nighter once and it did not work at all.

American Prometheus? Best biography I've ever read.

Im telling you, most people rationalize as you do. if youre intrested in knowing more about how people have the same problems, and how they even can solve it the same way and etc, you should check out Anthony Robbins`s audios or books...

I play video games and watch movies the night before an exam.

Id did the same before... but once, my friends made me to stay up all not and study! The result was extremely good so since then, I did the same for most of my exams...
