Orientation starts on August 18th. The prior week in the optional family medicine rotation. I don't know when they stop taking students off of the waitlist.
One person just left the OHSU class of '12 facebook group today. I am assuming that it is the same person who is responsible for bumping up the admit number from 47 to 48, but there is still a chance for those of you waiting.

Haha...someone's just a tiny bit obsessive about the OHSU facebook group.
Just kidding, well, sort of.![]()
Well, at some point today the list moved from #48 to #50. I didn't see it, because I had decided that if the list was going to ignore me, then I was going to ignore it. Luckily my fiance didn't know about my weird pact. So now I just need to not check my computer for the next week or so and I stand a slim slim chance of making it!
In the questions department, does anyone know what the optional family rotation thing is all about? I'll be missing it at any rate, but it would be nice to know what I'm missing.

Mistress S, do you know anything about the Eugene campus? I can't find much dated after the tort payout business, but I'm really interested if it's still going to happen. Thanks for any info you might have! 🙂
If it's the same thing as when I started, you have the option of spending a week before classes start with a rural fam med doc- maybe they have local docs you can work with too, I can't remember. It sounded interesting, but I was traveling out of the country and couldn't do it. You have the same opportunity between the first and second years to spend anywhere from a week to a month with a rural doc, plus a third year rural rotation, so I wouldn't worry too much about missing it now. You'll have plenty of opportunities later if you end up at OHSU, and it would mainly just be a shadowing experience at this stage anyway, I would imagine.
Yep, that is exactly what it is. I had to pass on it because I needed the time to get settled into Portland. I contacted the director and, as Mistress S so expertly pointed out, you can indeed do the program between MS1 and MS2 as well.

If a really long line and a horrible student ID photo had a lovechild...that would be my orientation.
Joking aside, some of it was informative, and it was really great to meet more of the class, so it wasn't a total bust. Here's to hoping tomorrow has fewer lines!
Today is the first day of orientation and the list moved two spaces to #57!
I am #61, so it looks like my dream is probably dead in the water at this point. My longshot hope is that 56-59 have all been happily accepted elsewhere. #60, whoever he or she is, and I would be overjoyed at our good fortune. It would be a close finish worthy of the Olympics.
Hopefully you'll be spared the GroupWise lecture this year now that we've migrated to Outlook. Enjoy it though, a week of orientation feels too long, but it gives you a great opportunity to meet a lot of your classmates, and you'll be sick of the academic stuff soon enough.

hi all - i just received an interview invite to ohsu and am trying to decide when to schedule the interview. i can come at the end of october, but if i delay my visit until mid-december, i can stay with friends and spend more time in portland. does anyone have a sense of whether putting off the visit until december would be detrimental?
the admissions staff were reassuring when i asked about this, and i know the school has a semi-rolling admissions policy, but i thought i might as well ask those of you who have been through the process. thanks in advance for any help!
Does anyone know how many applicants then send secondaries too? What percentage is screened out?
ohsu is essentially non-rolling. they only accept less than 15% of the class before may. so you really wouldn't be at a disadvantage to interview in december. plus, i checked out your profile and from the info in there you seem competitive enough not to worry about it. if you are going to get into ohsu, interviewing a couple months later than planned will not change that fact. hey, there are at least two people that got in from my interview date last year, and that was april 2nd!

You'll be absolutely fine interviewing later, and you may even have a few more perks than students interviewing in the next few weeks. By december, the student host program will be set up (it sounds like you would be staying with friends, but it's still a good option), first years will be more settled in and likely to come help with the interview day, and most of the kinks will probably be worked out of the system.
The only downside I can think of is that Portland will be uglier in December...
