Hey guys, it looks like the ballpark numbers for volunteering/shadowing is around 100-300 hrs. I was wondering if anyone else volunteered/shadowed exclusively over the summer, so that they had less to worry about during the school year with busy classwork?

Thanks in advanced for any advice.

I personally think volunteering+shadowing hours adding up to 100 or even 300 is REALLLLLLLLLY small. Even if you only do 3-4 volunteer activities and shadow throughout your entire undergrad, you should have much more than 300 hours.

Also, the application asks when you start and end.... If you put "Start: June; End: September" of the same year... I think it would make your application look poor. (I was on the application review board for three years at my undergrad and those application never get very far).

Thanks for the quick reply. JAWSSS, what number of hours do you recommend shooting for?
Can anyone else confirm that it looks poor on a resume to chunk your volunteering/shadowing over the summer?

I had around 50 hours over a few weeks within one summer. Unless you're planning on shadowing multiple dentists/specialists for those 300 hours, you'd be better off using most of that time studying DAT.
