Does this seem like a sound plan to you? This coming year, I am torn between retaking A+P1/2 (junior college) for the better grade or instead taking a junior/senior level physiology class at a nearby university. Personally I am leaning towards the latter because I will be more challenged (the retakes would be easy As for me now 🙂 ) in them.

sorry for the lack or brevity in my post 🙂

Easy As (especially for replacing a C) are what you need to bring your GPA to an acceptable level. Don't take random classes because they might be interesting. Get your GPA up so you can apply to medical school and then learn interesting things.

This should be your plan. If you have no intention of applying for the allopathic side you really don't need to keep taking new classes. Getting an "A" in Analytical Chem will most likely be harder than getting an "A" in Comm 101

Yes, this may mean you're the 27 year old guy in English 101 (speaking from experience) but it is by far the quickest way to raise your GPA.

From what you posted, you're 28 now right? I'd say screw the post-bacc @ an MD and just throw my lot in with DO. Look at it this way, if you started next fall you'd probably be in your late 30s by the time you finish residency. Do you really want to wait to start making a decent living until you're in your 40s?

ps. I'll be a similar age when I start this fall. I can't imagine wasting a year of my life chasing after "MD" when I'm already accepted to a DO program. A physician is a physician. Plus we get MAGIC HANDS!!1.

trust me bieng 28 and starting med school is not old guys. lol im bieng brutally honest here. look at the averages. average age for DO schools is 26. you guys should be fine

Did anybody else think of the song "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Stones when they read this post title?

I was misled, I say! Misled!

Well I am already 28 and I plan on apply during the next cycle, so the soonest I would start is Summer/Fall 2012

I am 29 and went through the cycle this year...at only one of my interviews was I the oldest person interviewing.

Spot on MLT2MT2DO...

I have two friends in DO med school: one who 40+ and wants to do ORTHO, and another that is 30+

No worries klonchy

I wasn't saying late 20s was too old for medical school. I was just saying that it'd be nice to finish school and residency, so you can enjoy life a little in your 30s.

I enjoyed life a little too much in my 20s, that's why I'm getting to do this journey in my 30s.

My comments were more directed at the OP to not worry about his age. Additionally I agree with you, problem is currently he isn't competitive enough for a DO school and even further from an MD school
