Already HPSP, possibly dx with exercise induced asthma.

Trust me, the military will give you plenty of paperwork whether or not you have any medical issue or not. My advice is to listen to your physician and figure out what is really going on so you can treat it appropriately. The military has rules but they do take exceptions to many of them. Be honest with your recruiter and they will probably have you talk with a military physician. Avoiding paperwork in the military is like trying to avoid the sun rising in the morning.

Well, symptoms are recent. Noticed that whenever I run or do strenuous activities that I get SOB and some chest tightness (around 15 minutes), which seemed odd for my age/health.

Might be the LA air since I never had this issue before in Norcal.

More paperwork... 🙁

One could hope that at this point after having invested the tuition and gone beyond the process of commissioning you, etc etc, the military would find a way to waiver the condition.

Worst case, you end up having to pay them back through federal service other than military after dental school, which all-in-all, could be a better alternative for many. (basing this on the clause in our contracts mentioning health issues arising during school and barring military service and what could be enforced in its stead)

Asthma of any kind is an automatic medical boarding process. The MEB (medical evaluation board) will decide if it is a condition that renders you unfit for service or if you can serve with limitations (usually limits where you can go). No way around this process for asthma. Many people are serving with EIA. From what I hear, it's uncommon to be medically separated or retired for EIA. However, that's for those already on active duty. Not sure how this will affect you as a reservist. You HPSP contract should have a clause that requires you to report any change in your health status. Best thing to do is wait for an actual diagnosis before updating AFIT with your health status.
