Hey everyone. I have applied to 7 schools this PTCAS cycle and I've received 2 rejections already. One from Mayo and the other from NAU. I'm still waiting to hear from UW, EWU, UPS, Pacific, and Montana. Honestly, do I have a chance of getting in this year? My last 60 credit GPA is a 3.9 but my PTCAS cumulative GPA is a 3.54 and prerequisite GPA is 3.75. For Pacific and Montana by prerequisite GPA is 3.85. My weakness is my GRE, 1030 and AW score of 3.5. With 455 hrs of observation across 4 different settings, do you think I have any chance? After all, I wasnt even invited to interview at Mayo or NAU.

Hey,

Hang in there. Your stats are good, while your AW and GRE might be a little low, and it is good that you at least recognize the weakness of your application. You still have to hear back from 5 other schools, so you're not done yet. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. If any of the 4 schools (I know that UW doesn't do interviews, and if it helps, I haven't heard back from them either) have interviews, make sure yourself in the interview.

In the event you are not accepted anywhere (I hope you do get in, but worst case scenario), consider retaking the GREs and try to bump up those scores.

Anyway, stay positive, the application cycle isn't over yet. Best of luck

Have faith my friend! As mentioned above, UW doesn't interview, and neither does UPS. Your stats look good, so just try to stay patient (I know that is WAY easier said than done, because I'm anxious as heck waiting for responses as well).

meant to say "make sure you SELL yourself in the interview"

again, like cherokee said, just stay positive and be patient

I got an interview invitation two days ago from NAU

Silly me........been busy this weekend ......... got my interview notice for NAU....very excited!! March 2nd.

Which state do you live in? My stats are only slightly lower than JarrodMac10's (3.7 overall, 3.7 pre-req, 1250 GRE 4.5 Analytical), and only slightly higher than yours. I've been rejected by three state schools and accepted by two private schools. OOS schools are difficult to get into, since they give preference (despite what they might say) to IS students. You're basically competing for 10 slots, if that. If you got rejected by state schools, I wouldn't despair too much. A private school will surely accept you. Are Mayo and NAU private or OOS schools?

I don't know how helpful I'll be, but this is my 2nd year applying. I had a very similar first time GRE score at you (1080). I had also applied to 7 schools and I was waitlisted at 5 and rejected at 2. I didn't end up getting in off the waitlist so here I am again. I have retaken the GRE after making studying for it a full-time job for a month and did MUCH better. I have already been accepted to 3 schools this time around. However, I am on the east coach so I do not know how applicable this is for you. But, keep your head up. If worst comes to worst, you re-take the GRE and go for it again. If PT is truly your dream, you'll get it!!! Hang in there.

Quite frankly your numbers seem pretty competitive. I cannot be certain, but I suspect you will receive better news from other programs. The application pool is very high for so many programs so I would not take it as a referendum by any means. I cannot speak to NAU, but Mayo tends to be extremely competitive! Continue to be maintain a positive attitude. Also, the process is not solely about "numbers." There are programs that actually do care about personal statements, ECs, and the applicant being a "well rounded" individual(whatever that means). How were the other aspects of your application IYHO?

From the postings last cycle and this regarding NAU, it looks like in state is interviewed on the first day and OS the 2nd day. I am in state....and just clear the min. requirements on NAU web site and averages posted on PTCAS. Shocked and exctied-very- to have an opportunity to interview.

Your stats look good, but you picked schools that are very difficult to get into. Based upon the stats provided by people posting acceptances on this forum, the average GPAs are: UW 3.63 overall, 3.75 pre-req; EWU 3.64 overall, 3.70 pre-req; Puget 3.75 overall, 3.87 pre-req; Pacific 3.70 overall, 3.69 pre-req. PTCAS stats for all of these schools are similar to what I've posted. I've never seen anyone on this forum indicate acceptance at Montana, and they aren't PTCAS, so I don't know what their averages are. It's getting pretty late in the year, but have you considered a couple of the newer not yet accredited programs out West that haven't yet closed (at least officially) their application cycle that might be easier to get into, like Touro (NV), Midwestern (AZ), or Rocky Mountain?

To the OP, as a few others have mentioned, your stats look pretty competitive to me and though your GRE's aren't real high, mine were nothing to stage a parade over and I was accepted at two different programs. As to NAU, yes it is very competitive (believe me, I know) so don't be too disappointed that they did not offer you admission. Just stay patient because I think you're in a good position application statistics-wise for your remaining programs.

Also keep in mind that UPS won't let us know about admission decisions until late February/early March, so don't panic about them yet.

Montana also said that we won't hear back until Feb. about interviews.
Jarrodmac10, your stats are good, you just happened to get rejected from two really competitive schools for OOS. Montana is competitive, but not nearly as competitive as NAU, so I think you have a good shot at an interview there, and with the number of obs. hours you have, I'm sure you'll do well in interviews.

I think you definitely have a chance of getting in. I'm have not applied to any of the schools you have listed, but my stats are about the same as yours except my GRE scores are lower. I have been accepted to 2/3 schools I applied to, so keep your head up!

Thank you very much!! I hear back this Friday from EWU. As for Montana, I had them at the top of my list, so I'm praying they give me a chance to prove myself in the interview.

I thought my PTCAS essay was rather good, my Aunt is an "author" (How to Sell a House on Your Own) so I thought her insight helped. As far as ECs.. "Pee Wee football coach, Pre-PT club, Intramurals". I believe my references are strong (wouldn't know, havent seen 'em).

Your stats are very strong. I heard from a program that this is a very competitive application cycle as they have gotten "flooded" with 3.8-4.0 applicants. That doesn't take anything away from you, you still have a few more schools to go. Remain faithful!!

Chin up Jarrodmac! You still have four schools left on your list. Perhaps a letter to those schools letting them know that you are still very interested and why you are a good candidate and will be a good PT will get their attention. I did this and it seemed to work out well.

As others have commented, if it doesn't pan out this year, it just might next year especially if you can pull up the GRE. I am of the persuasion that things work out the way they are supposed to.

If you do end up on a wait list, you might be interested to know that I have a friend who found out two weeks before the semester began that he got in to a really good school.
