I just received an email saying the following:

"Thank you for applying to Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. After careful review of your application materials we have determined that you are not competitive at LLUSD for the fall of 2013.

Your science and cumulative GPA's, DAT scores, coursework, personal statement and essays were used as criteria for this decision, as well as, Dentistry experience and volunteer efforts.

Thank you once again for your interest in LLUSD. We wish you success as you pursue your career goals."

Why would they not invite me for an interview?

In the "where to apply thread?" it mentioned that you should be "religiously inclined/SDA." Thats the only reason I can think of because your stats are great.

Was this after you submitted the secondary application? Did you submit an LOR from a religious affliate?

This was after I submitted my secondary app. I was still waiting on my LOR from a religious affiliate to be submitted to them.

I'm not SDA, but I am religiously inclined. So I'm a bit confused, since my stats are way above their averages.

Yea wow that's just brutal!! Especially with your stats. But don't worry you will get multiple interviews with those stats.

You can appeal your app. Call the school and talk to the director.

just curious, what race are you? I never knew about this school until now and I'm alittle scared of this school since they want you to be religious...... (thinking they might be racist haha)

This is what happens when you don't do your homework.

How exactly did I not do my homework? I knew they were SDA and religiously-inclined. As stated above, I'm not SDA, but I am religiously-inclined. So please enlighten us on what exactly it is you know that we don't.

he/she is just trolling.

while you didn't receive an interview from LLU, you'll definitely have better luck elsewhere. good luck!

That's pretty harsh. I say you're better off not going there if they didn't even offer you an interview with those stats. 🙂

Please tell us that in your letter dentistry was not capitalized.

So sorry to hear that. Did you have any red flags on your app that might have raised a question?

Sorry to hear. Best of luck with the rest of your applications though!

What!!???

Loma Linda is not that good school and you are rejected with your good stats ... Doesnt make any sense to me.

Also, it made me think how good stats is going to be competitive since Loma Linda rejected 3.8/21. Damm...

Are you international student ?

Not an international student. I just spoke with them, and apparently they think I don't have enough science courses (sounds like a cop out to me). But who knows. I'm not stressing about it, as they were nowhere near my top choice.

Wow..So which courses and how many are you missing? Do you mean pre-reqs

I wasn't missing any prereqs, I had all of the pre-reqs, but that's all that I had. According to them, they wanted me to have more science courses (like Histology or Microbiology). I can understand that.

That still doesnt make sense.

That is not fair.

Pre requisite is pre requisite unless they said all applicants have to take more than it is required.

Why do they put pre requisite ? If they work this **** way ?

Is this joke to them ?, messing with students? , play with others lives?

What a bull****..

You aren't Christian enough . Kidding, but no seriously...you have great scores, probably better than most of their applicants. Keep your chin up. Those scores will undoubtedly attain you admission somewhere.

This.

Tell them to give the money back to you. This is NOT COOL.

Makes me iffy on sending $100 for their secondaries now... The school is turning me off due to their religious requirements, but then again I dont want to lower my chances by not applying to this school.

Honestly, that school sounds like a bunch of lunatics and I would consider yourself lucky. On to the next one!

Did you take courses such as biochem physiology or anatomy?

Sent from my SGH-T989 using SDN Mobile

I took all of these.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words of encouragement. I'm not that bummed about it. More annoyed that I spend the $75 (AADSAS) plus $100 (Secondary) just to get rejected this soon, haha.

Truth be told, I didn't make this thread as a way to "bash" Loma Linda. They are a great school, and the administrators seem very kind and professional. I really just wanted to know if others had the same experience with them this soon in the admissions process.

My guess is that they rejected me because they don't consider me to be a "good fit" with their program...and that is completely fine with me. There's no way for us, as applicants, to really tell how good of a "fit" we are with a school...only adcoms can tell you that.

For those who are currently applying to LLU, keep at it and don't be discouraged...you might actually be a good fit for their school.

Loma Linda is a good school, I guess it just wasn't the right one for me. Good luck to everybody in the admissions process!

Or they rejected you because they knew you would receive multiple acceptances this year and most likely quickly deny their acceptance if offered. My two cents...

Forget about the individual battles and focus on the war.

Even the best applicants get rejections. Getting dinged from one school is nothing to worry about. If you get rejected from all schools however, you just might have a problem. Although from you post history it seems you have ample work experience and a steady job so losing a year wouldn't harm you as much as many soon to be college grads headed into un/underemployment.

The Dean and the staff at LL appear to be in need of a refresher course in common and proper nouns.

I think the OP has kept a very level head about this. Each dental school is different and is looking for a certain "type" of student. I'm sorry you got rejected this early in the process, especially since it would appear you have good stats.

The take home lesson is that stats are not everything, and not every "good" applicant can be accepted. They got over 1700 apps last year and the class size is around 100. It's not always an exact science, and sometimes a good applicant can be rejected or a "bad" applicant accepted. Try to remember that the adcoms are human and there will always be a subjective aspect to the process.

Best of luck with your other schools.

I think this is spot on. 👍

Just need to hear this again, freaking 1st rejection and my heart is broken.👎

LLU's stats are crappy as hell. Good luck to the rest of you who are still in the game at LLU.

If you look at their class statistics, an overwhelming number of admitted students are SDA and come from other SDA universities. I wouldn't feel down.
