As we all know the mitochondria is known as "the powerhouse of the cell". I had an interesting EC question on a cell bio test once asking us to think of an alternative creative nickname for the mitochondira!

I came up with the windmill of the cell!

Anyone have any creative ideas.... have fun with this... we all need a little time to laugh!

The flux capacitor of the cell.

👍👍

Everybody knows that the ATP that a Mitochondria puts out is equal to 1.21 Gigawatts 🙂

In that Harvard animation video everyone likes...the mitochondria kind of looks like a squirming maggot.

Mitochondria? More like Mighty Chondria.

"It had stood there for hundreds of millions of years, and he thought it would always stand there. Its cristae clutched inside the outer membrane like a fist with fingers sunk into the soil, and he thought that if a giant were to seize it from the inside, he would not be able to extrude it, but would swing the organelle and the whole of the cell with it, like a ball at the end of a string. he felt safe in the mitochondria's presence; it was a thing that nothing could change or threaten; it was his greatest symbol of strength."

So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Mito -- long, into a ten-thousand foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Mito says? Gunga galunga...gunga -- gunga galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, MITO, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any ATP, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total chemiosmotic equillibrium. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."
