couple unicorn books by Coville,

Machien, why is HP (a book about wizards and magic) off-limits, but Twilight (a book about sex-crazed vampires) is just fine? What's the Mom-logic here?

AHHHH i love coville! I read those when i was a little girl!!!!

She new about HP before i was at all interested in reading them, she didn't know twilight existed until after the movie. She still dosn't know i ever read the books.(which i actually regret doing:laugh:)

I don't get HBO. 🙁 Basic cable in this town is expensive enough as it is! It's a monopoly.

I do need to read the Suki Stackhouse books, or whatever they're called. I'm not buying them - I don't buy books unless I've already read and loved them. And, well, getting them from the library just hasn't happened yet. I borrowed the Twilight books, or that never would have happened either.

I downloaded all of mine from 4shared.com (you don't have to join, there's a search bar on the right side of the page, about halfway down). I think they're not the final, polished copy of the books, but they're good enough for me.

A little off topic again, but does anyone have the thread link to official interviews from last year? I can't find it.. Many thanks 🙂

Yes! I was in Portland about a year ago and I went to this huge bookstore called Powell's that had a "rare book room" that had like original copies or early versions of a lot of classic books... they also had some signed copies. It was one of the coolest places I've ever been!

Powell's is amazing!

I LOVE finding bookstores like that!! I was on the east coast this summer and happened upon a small book store with a ton of first editions --- even a first edition Doctor Zhivago! *sigh* --- like I could afford that! They also had some really old classical music stuff dating back to the Romantic era...I could have stayed in that place for a week.

I got dragged to New Moon by my g/f - (it was a testament to my love for her, one that I truly earned by not walking out of the theater).

I mean, I figured if you had Vamps. vs. Werewolves, (even without Kate Beckinsale), it would have to be 'alright', right? Wrong. Its like they took everything good about Blade and Underworld right out of the script and inserted 3 seasons of the badderer parts of Dawsons Creek.

My favorite part of the movie (besides the 5 minute camera rotation that made me dizzy and showed the passing of the seasons while the character with zero personality lamented over her lost love) was the ending.

Paraphrasing here... (and "warning spoiler" (i use that term lightly))

"Before I suck the life out of you, Before I steal your soul, and make you mine for all eternity, before I make you say goodbye to all your family and loved ones, before I break a 1,000 year truce with those 'other' guys... 'will you marry me'" Then cut to awkward 80's style soap opera silence...

No wonder I couldn't get any in HS... is this what girls really go for?!

I think if I somehow got dragged into seeing it, I'd be kicked out of the theatre for laughing like that -> 🤣 through the whole thing. Something about those books just doesn't allow me to keep a straight face. Then again, I know how it is to be on the other side of that... I love Tolkien, and I'm sure that when the LOTR movies came out my delight was just as unfathomable to those not into the genre.

Anyway, books are wonderful. I drove my boyfriend to take the GRE yesterday, and happily spent the wait time burrowing through a large bookstore 😍

also a Tolkien fan. the hobbit is one of my favorite books! but i am a classic literature junkie!!! got done reading the scarlet letter(again) a week ago and have now started Walden(again)

It's Monday! Let's go back to the original thread topic and start hoping we get emails today.

after what i read on the MO thread i dont have much hope left for out of state schools. i thought MO was my best chance because i THOUGHT they didnt look at only stats and more the 5 essays i had to write.... but that seems like its not the case (deducted from MO thread discussion) 🙁

I am right there with you. i have crossed them off the list of possibilities and I am expecting a rejection come December. Hoping for Kansas!

I'm starting to get nervous about Michigan. They only have a few more weeks before their self-imposed deadline for sending out supplementals. Oh well, plenty of other schools to obsess about, and I only have to get into one.

To get back on topic, 😉 I'll make a list since I missed a lot over the weekend.
- Hate mayo and Miracle Whip. Fries go with ketchup or barbecue sauce, or just by their lonesome, salty selves.
- Loved Harry Potter, have only seen the first couple movies and would rather stick with my own mental images.
- Oh carp, this forum doesn't have spoiler tags and forces you to be creative with your cursing.
- New books, old books, they're all good.
- I've never noticed the parallel between puppy breath and skunk, but I do know that cats' feet smell like Fritos.

OMG we totally had the conversation about cats feet smelling like Fritos at the last place I worked. That's so random but hilarious. As far as Twilight goes, while everyone went to see that I saw the men who stare at goats. I got to see George Clooney's butt so that's always a plus, and he's really hot with long hair. I haven't read a book for fun in so long I'm not even sure where to start, I need to find one though, Christmas break is almost upon us!

On Topic! I don't feel nearly as stressed this week as I did last week. I'm sure as we move from Monday to Friday I will start to pull my hair out but there's a lot going on this week to distract me. Everything from birthdays to holidays to shopping days. I haven't heard from any of my schools except that they've received all my information. I don't think that I'm going to get accepted this year, it was kind of a trial run that I was doing, but it's still driving me crazy. I'd prefer to get three letters in the mail today that say "sorry you suck, try again next year" than keep waiting.

OK, I too have not heard from my top two schools. I did however get an early rejection from my other one (only applied to 3). With that said, I felt much better reading the first part of this thread - I am in the same boat. My heart sinks a little each time that I see the invite list has gotten longer yet my email box is still empty. (I am happy for those that got invites).
However - reading people complain about their 'crappy' GPA's when they are perfectly fine - and in fact are right in the range of those that are normally accepted is frustrating.
You aren't allowed to say you have a 'crappy' GPA unless it is below a 3.0 - new rule -I just made it up!

i give people the stink eye through my computer screen when they say their GPA/GRE sucks and its 3.7/ >1200 *insert stink eye smilie here*

I know this is coming late, but as far as the Mayo/Miracle Whip debate:

MAYO IS THE BEST!!! Miracle Whip= :barf:

IMO, mix equal amounts of mayo and ketchup for french fries.

Even, better than mayo or ketchup is ranch (jalepeno ranch is the BEST!!) or thousand island. 🙂

(cant remember if this was said earlier)
any honey mustard lovers? mmm my #1 pick with chicken nuggets

Not honey mustard but straight up honey on any fried chicken (like nuggets) is amazing!
I also put ketchup on my grilled cheese sandwiches, yum.

But my 3.2 is crappy. I swear it is! And Colorado agreed, lol!

As for GRE, yeah, I don't think anyone in the 1200s is crappy. I was rather pleased with my 1220/5.5!

What's really good for quick lunches, if your grocery stores have it, is the "purdue pre cooked chicken strips" with honey mustard. I have it for lunch at least twice a week!

Honey mustard goes on anything!

I know how hard we've all worked for our "crappy" GPA's (I have the same), and I don't want to call it just crappy. Can we call it "Kinda-Crappy"- KC for short, GPAs? 😛

No this is not true at all for vet school admissions! I'd say that cowgirla has a good cutoff of 3.2 for crappiness. My GPA is for sure the biggest weakness in my second-time application and it's a 3.18.

Im beginning to feel insecure when I see all the interview invites. I have none. But I guess I don't have any rejections either. Still its very difficult to stay positive.
I will have to say that I like honey with my nuggets! What about Ranch dressing? yum that's good on pizza and nuggets. And I love ketchup on homemade mac and cheese. I think the lack of interview invites are making me think of comfort food.

me too 🙁 only 2/7 of my schools have sent out invites though so im TRYING to stay positive but it sucks when that interview thread keeps getting longer!!!! you should go to the "600 animal murder" thread, we are talking about food!!

This waiting process is awful. I have heard nothing and am starting to feel like I won't hear anything but rejections. I don't think I can hold out another year if this doesn't work out and will head down to Ross. I would rather be half way done my stay down there then waiting to get in again next year. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! I am trying to stay positive! I know Mizzou is over and my hope for Kansas is dwindling. Six more schools to hold on for.

So will schools give out rejections while giving out interview invites? Or do they wait until they get through with interviews and hand out admission offers with rejections?

this is my first time applying so i have no clue. but i figured id respond since no one else has yet. When i first sent in my apps in Oct i assumed rejections would come right away (as if they were doing a weed out process) but now it seems like they are all holding back until after they make sure they can fill their slots with people they want. blahhh this sucks, its so cruel to keep the people who have no chance hanging just "in case" they need to invite more people.

You think that's cruel? Every year, SOMEONE who was rejected later gets an interview/acceptance. It doesn't happen a whole lot, but... it happens. Year before last, Cornell ran out of waitlisters to fill their seats and had to approach those that were originally rejected. Last year, spyisis had something of that sort happen with KSU I think. I definitely wouldn't count on it happening, but... insane that it does, eh?

noooo way!!! i cant believe it!! i wonder who will be the lucky one this yr

Yeah I kinda figured stuff like that happens. I guess we are learning a lot about patience. I hope I get some interviews. January is gonna be tough.

Don't forget about the very best time that this happened!

(to a certain LVT..)

I hope this week brings good news to everyone who is still waiting for it!

Well, I don't qualify to post in this thread any more 🙁

But I'm gonna be a rebel and do it anyhow.

I consider my 3.4 crappy. A&M certainly seems to think it is. But my GRE is alright at 20 points below yours. It's borderline crappy lol.
