Am I applying to enough schools?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Damn, nice work on the 14 on BS!! Anyways, I don't know how competitive the NJ schools on your list are, but other than that they are all pretty competitive, so if I was you I think I might add 2-3 "backup" schools that you are fairly certain you will get in to. Your stats are solid enough, but you never know...so its always good to play it safe. Good luck 🙂

by the way i'm a biochem major too, fun stuff 😛

11 schools is enough, don't let the neurotic pre-meds who applied to 40+ tell you otherwise. Your choice of 11 does look a little "top heavy" though, you may want to add a few schools that have stats slightly below yours, just to be safe. You can add schools to the list you designated on AMCAS for the $30/school price. You resubmit, but if you are already processed it only takes AMCAS like two days to send out the new info to schools. I added a few schools several weeks after and now am glad that I did. :luck:

Damn was all I could say too, couldn't believe it. 😀 Wish the 9 in Verbal was higher though....

Thanks for the replies! I think my problem is that I don't know which schools are middle-tier.

I'd been thinking of adding a Boston school... so I added Tufts, another NYC, NYMC, and Temple. All with slightly lower stats than mine... Hopefully everything will work out.

Go Biochem majors! I've made so many good friends in my major, I hope I have the same comraderie in med school.

I Didn't know that, thanks for the info!

Your stats are fine + you are a urm. Dont waste your money on more apps.

not a URM according to AMCAS definition.... not Mexican-Hispanic.

good job on the BS 14 score!! 👍

According to my premed advisor, the average nationwide is 11 schools. You should be fine (as opposed to myself when I was planning on applying to 3 😀 )

My friend was given an interview to Wash U, with a 3.5/31mcat. He's a horrible writer and had very little clinical experience (okay research, but not even good). He had moved to the states 6 years before going through ugrad and applying to med schools. The native Spanish speaking helps (if you are in fact a native speaker, though I'm think a NJ girl might not be 😉 ). The point of all this is that I think that while you are not officially a URM... you still sort of are.

I'm not sure of this though...

I know a lot of spanish, but not a native speaker... and actually a "California girl", born and raised in San Diego, right along the mexican border. Heritage is the Spaniards that took over CA. I have mixed feelings about the whole affirmative action thing. I'm also one of those Hispanics that looks pretty white but with hispanic features.

My greatest nightmare about the admissions process is that interviewers will see me and be like "we asked you here because you put hispanic down, but you're more american than anything! goodbye."

Your list looks ok but I would add maybe 2 more lower tier (stat-wise) schools to the list for just in case. Good luck.

too bad the VR is under a 10. you should add a few more mid tier schools cant hurt. and you have no reason to apply to 40+ if you arent from california.

you will get into umdnj, nymc and or temple. at least.
sit back and enjoy the ride. 😎

My advice to people is to apply to more if you can afford it--up to a reasonable point. It's a lot better than having to reapply because you didn't give yourself enough chances to get in.

Add lower tier schools, or those that really screen pre-secondary.

you are so getting into somewhere. i cant feel it. =)

After reading this, I kind of decided I'm in her boat. P-11 V-11 B-10, 3.48 bcpm (4.0 for the last 3 semesters, did a little goofing off freshman year), 3.69 overall from UMiami (non-sci major with some historical medical research and all the usual volunteer stuff). I applied to Mt. Sinai, NYU, Cornell, Einstein, Dartmouth, Yale, Jefferson, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, and my state school UOklahoma. Received secondaries from everywhere except vandy where I haven't heard anything.I have a pretty good shot at OU, but I wouldn't mind throwing a few more middle/lower tier schools in the bag. Anyone have any good private school recommendations? I'm at a loss for adding schools, but I only applied to 10 and I'm not URM. They are all very competetive in the blue book(MSATPRLMNOPQRS or whatever the hell it's called) Any feedback would be appreciated.
the book is called the MSAR 😉.

you basically have a 3.7/3.5/32. I sure as hell wouldnt be worried if i were you.
I dont know what the rest of your application and your PS is like, but i wouldnt be going off on a limb to say that you would be competitive for an interview at most of the schools you will apply to. You do have some tough schools on your list, but good thing you have OU. Have you thought about applying to the Ohio, Boston schools? Tulane, some of the Chicago schools?
