Hi,

I was scheduled to take the MCAT on June 29th however I don't think I am ready at all yet because of my AAMC sample. If I take the MCAT July 13th and I am applying for DO schools, will this set me back and make me unlikely to get interviews or will I still have a chance to interview? Please let me know.

You'll be good. I didn't submit AACOMAS/secondaries until September/October last year and got interviews within a timely manner. I even submitted a secondary for one school in late December and got an interview there as well. DO cycle runs longer than MD

I submitted my DO apps around the middle of November and submitted secondaries on or after Thanksgiving. I got an interview invite as early as 2 days after submitting my secondary and as late as mid-April. The DO cycle runs longer than the MD one.

Thanks for the info! I’ll be getting my MCAT scores back in October. I hope to be complete at most schools by the end of October. When do you think it’s realistic to receive interview invites at that time of year assuming average stats?

This is not late. Dec is late. Please spread the word.

I took my MCAT around the same time, didn't submit some apps until spet/oct, got most of my interviews (5 of them) after thanksgiving all the way through march, you'll be fine for DO

Does it make a difference if you submit earlyish but then wait a while to submit secondaries? (i.e. submit in July, wait til Sept. to send back secondaries)?
vs.
Submit primary later (in Sep) and then send secondaries back faster in Sept?

Not for DO. The Admissions Dean is not sitting there with a stopwatch in his/her hand

Got it, Thanks! Also how much/ if any do I need to change my AAMCAS personal statement before applying to DO schools?

Only in the regard that there is a much window for the MD cycle

I am relieved to know that I have a little bit more of time but more importantly, I guess I am a little confused about how it works, more specifically the "DO cycle lasts longer". Isn't it rolling admissions for DO schools? Thank you so much for the clarification!

Yes, it is a rolling admission for most schools, but also most MD schools finish interviewing January/February while most DO schools finish interviewing March/April. Bottom line, the earlier the better, but later (meaning before thanksgiving) won't kill you for Do schools.

That makes a lot of sense now, it's based on the window of when the stop interviewing. Just wanted to know for my knowledge, thanks so much!
