I havent sent in my AMCAS yet but will be doing so in the next week. I also am taking the MCAT sept 12th so it will take a month for those scores to come in. I was just wondering if I am already behind the curve. Should I have sent in my app already and will this have a negative impact on my chances to get into schools.

Yes. You may very well have difficulties getting placed for an interview because you are so far behind in the interview line, especially since your scores come out in October, when some schools stop taking applications.

You are a bit late, but you may still get some interviews if you have great stats. To get more bang for your application buck, it might be best to apply very early in the cycle next summer.

unless u have really good stats, dont waste ur money..

Even if you submit your AMCAS now, it will take weeks for it to get verified. It's really late, apply next year.

I agree with the others. There's no harm in waiting a year and being super early. Besides you still haven't taken the MCAT, won't have your score til October, and won't have an idea of what schools you have the best chances at til then. Safe yourself the stress and money and wait a year.

Not to hijack your thread OP, but what exactly is considered applying "early" versus "late"?

I'm assuming early would be applying in July and I'm guessing late is applying in September or after?

Before mid-August: early
After that: late

I agree with that statement. I think even superstars would get rejected by a lot of schools they would normally have gotten easy interview invitations from earlier in the process.

I would go so far to say that you should have your primary submitted before August and all of your secondaries done by the end of August. In my mind, anything later than that is late due to the fact that most schools start interviewing at full steam in September/Late August.

outside of the sdn world, right now is approaching late. If you are below average I would wait, but if you are fairly above average or are feeling lucky you can still submit now. Most of my friends submitted at the end of August/middle of Sept and they did okay.

The problem isn't the AMCAS, it's the MCAT. Unless you have some reason for really not wanting to wait, I would wait.

Not to give you false hope or anything.., but depending on how confident you are with your application, you might still have a chance! I submitted my AMCAS in late October (mainly because of personal problems), got verified in November, but still managed to receive a couple of interview invites, subsequently, acceptances (i.e. with an average MCAT, slightly above average GPA, good EC's, and a really good PS,-- I know rating PS's can be subjective, but I say this because I did receive some positive feedback from interviewers).

Anyway, so, its not entirely impossible! You/or someone who's opinion you trust/or both, just need to make an honest evaluation of your application, from there then you can determine whether it is still worth proceeding with this cycle given the time constraint. GOOD LUCK!:luck:

P/S: BTW I'm currently on deferment..

I also heard from a friend who didn't interview until November so if you turn it around really quickly, you might have a chance. But again AMCAS verification takes quite a bit of time.
