I was just hoping for some advice if I am competitive or not with m current stats. I also included the schools I will be applying to, so if you or anyone else you know has gotten into these schools I'd love to know how close I am to their stats. Thanks!
I just graduated and I'm taking a year off, working in a clinic as a tech.

GRE: 154 V, 152 Q, 4 AW
GPA: 3.74
Observation Hours: 64 outpatient general, 20 inpatient, 30 outpatient women's health therapy, 5 outpatient lymphedema therapy. Starting a tech job at a pediatric rehab center, will work there for a year.
Extracurricular Activities:
  • Research Assistant for last 2 years in a research lab on campus
  • Peer mentor in two learning communities on campus
  • Worked at the local hospital the past year doing admissions work
  • Student ambassador for my college
  • TA for two biology labs
  • Volunteer experience through sorority, free lunch programs, Appalachia Service Project (building homes for impoverished families), Women's shelter etc.
Honors:
  • Dean's List, 6 semesters
  • Graduated Magna cum Laude
  • Recipient of the Chapter Leadership Award Scholarship through my sorority
Letters of Recommendation: 3 good letters from my biochem prof, my PI from the research lab I worked in, and a women's health PT

Schools I'm applying to:
  • University of Iowa
  • Creighton University
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Rosalind Franklin University
  • Concordia Wisconsin University
  • University of Saint Mary
  • University of Colorado-Denver
  • University of Indianapolis
Thanks for any input!

Pros: Research experience, Variety in your observation, Letter variety from academia and a clinician, going to get a large amount of experience as a tech.

Cons: GPA is borderline for many programs

I cannot speak about these schools particularly, but do know that many programs objectively narrow the field of applications by GPA and GRE score alone!

Best of Luck,

A 3rd Year who doesn't miss the struggle of applications

GRE looks >300. you should be fine!

Variety of experience is HUGE for a lot of schools - and you have a lot of sub-specialty, women's health & pediatric PT are very difficult settings to get immersed in.

If your schools you are applying to conduct interviews - make sure to do your research on their processes if you proceed onto the next step. Just work on a genuine personal statement and I wish you best of luck!

If you apply to that list of schools with those stats and interview well, you will likely get multiple acceptances.

That is interesting you say that a 3.74 GPA is borderline. I'm curious what your basing that off of since the mean accepted GPA reported by PTCAS is a 3.57. On a separate note, I watched a few of your videos and I just wanted to say thanks for making them! As someone starting a DPT program this fall I really appreciate your advice to know how to make the most of my experience in school. I'll definitely be re-watching closer to the start of classes to make sure I didn't forget anything!

As for your application, I didn't apply to any of those schools but I think you have a very solid application which puts you in a spot to at least get your application looked at and land some interviews. Write strong essays and apply early! Some schools take into consideration the date you sent in your application.

I am speaking solely from experience regarding my GPA comment. I had what I felt was a competitive application when I applied that included a 4.0 undergrad. I was waitlisted at a few schools and was accepted to a class with a 3.88 average. I realize this is not the best representation of the 225+ programs, but was speaking to what I went through a few years ago.

Also, thank you so much for the feedback on my Vlog. If you have any other questions, please let me know. I hope I can get the word out to other students in your situation starting this Fall.

Right off the bat, your cGPA is strong; however, pre-req GPA is also very important and something schools will greatly consider. Yet, even though GPA is important, it isn't everything. I know people with GPAs on the lower end of the 3.0 range get multiple acceptances while those in the high 3.0 range (close to 4.0) get few to no acceptances.

You have some good extracurricular opportunities and the rehab tech job will probably help you out a lot. I don't know what the LOR situation looks like for the schools you're planning on applying to, but I know some schools out there want 2 LORs from PTs. So just double check on that to make sure you have everything you need.

Good luck!
