Hi All,

So here's my story. Around 2011 or so i ended up getting expelled from college.
Yes i know it was completely stupid but here's the story behind it.

I was getting a B-/C+ in orgo and i knew that doing poorly in this subject was going to basically mean the end of my medical school chances. Along with depression, as well as doing poorly in physics and genetics, i decided to take matters into my own hands.

I noticed that my professor kept all the final exams on his computer and decided to research how to hack into a computer. Turns out all i needed was a couple hours of learning Python and i was able to create a keylogger to steal the password for my professors computer. It also recorded clicked items, so i knew exactly where the files were kept.

So during an office hour, the professor headed to the rest room and i went into his computer and downloaded all the materials into a flash drive. And as a greedy college student, i started selling copies of the final exam and made around 10,000 in a semester, until a classmate ratted me out. I came clean and admitted to my wrongdoings, but obviously the prof is pissed. Ive seen him at local bars and he will leave as soon as me and some friends show up. And he's taken it into his own hands to tarnish my reputation among all my friends at the university and was the reason my fiance called off the engagement. Oh well.

Long story short, i ended up getting expelled from college but applied to another college before the expulsion appeared on my transcript. I finished my bio degree with a 2.5 and ended up getting jobs in computer science as a developer/defense specialist due to connections and ability to learn quickly. I've spun the expulsion into a positive thing in the IT field and will probably be starting a MIS in 2017.

Is it possible for me to get into a post bac program, fix my reputation, and get into med school? Or is it all over for me?

Thanks.

Yes, chances at medical school are all over for you.

I am just spit-balling because I don't have any concrete data to back up my assertion, but I would assume it would not look favorably (to say the least) on you if you were to apply to a formal "career changer" program and had to disclose if you'd ever faced academic penalty.

However, another route could be to "build your own" where you enroll in the necessary classes piecemeal (a local state school or community college) and work on prepping that way. If you really knocked the classes and MCAT out of the park, and were upfront about the expulsion (and how you've learned from it, etc.), I would have to assume you still have a chance? Is there anyone in pre-health counseling from where you graduated that you could speak to about this?

Anyone else have thoughts?

See this is what im thinking...

I work for a fortune 500 company as a software architect and am on track to make 6 figures in a year or two... though i would like to make somewhere near 500k/yr by 40.

This means i would need to up my skills, and get into management.. And medicine for money seems suicidal seeing a good friend of mine working 80+ hours a week just to pay the bills.

Would med school be an option say.. 10 years down the line? I mean, a 35 year old trying to get into med school is a completely different story than a 24 year old.

But 10 years in an IT career and building myself up to a Vice President role would make me seriously question the point and $$ going into med school...

It would be hard enough for you to get into medical school with your gpa. But on top of that, your institutional action is among the worst I've ever heard of. I just don't see anyone ever looking past it - I'm sorry, but there are a thousand possible career choices for you - medicine just isn't one of them.
