All right so my situation's a little complicated.I was born in the US (won't disclose where specifically, but it's NOT Texas). I went to highschool in Canada, and now I go to college in Texas. I have my own residential address, I get taxed (part-time job), I got my driver's license and everything. I've been in Texas for more than two years straight.

I'm not sure what the criteria are for becoming a state resident, but I was wondering when it comes to applying to schools in texas, would i be considered insstate

Each school has a different policy. Call them and find out.

I think you're a Texan. I struggled with determining whether I was a Texan or not (because I kept moving into and out of the state), and so I asked TMDSAS.

Here's the criteria: http://www.utsystem.edu/tmdsas/frwqAskedQ/13-TexasResidency.html.

Email and ask TMDSAS if you're not sure. They're the ones who determine whether you're considered a resident.

BTW, all three schools have the same policy--they all rely on TMDSAS to determine residency status. Texas schools are in a group of their own. I think they interact with each other quite a bit.

I think "no" if you're not dependent on some Texan parent(s) OR if you were in school those two years.

If TMDSAS says "no," then I think you would need to drop school for a year before applying.

This doesn't seem very accurate to me.

OP, you need gainful employment (ability to pay for 1/2 of your living expenses and tuition) and you need to not be a dependent of a non-Texas resident. Call/e-mail TMDSAS with your info, and they'll be very honest with you. I'm in the same boat, but things seem to be going well for me (I work 30hrs a week, have lived here 2.5 years now.)
