So i met with a dskool director and was given the cold hard facts...basically

living in the Northeast is the WORST possible place to be if you're applying to dental school (for the last 4 cycles or so). Basically, an oversupply of OVERQUALIFIED (his/her words not mine) applicants vying for few seats. Basically, all you see with interview invites are

a) AA 22+
or

b)uber High GPA and 19+

this correlates pretty well with what predents.com is showing for apps this year.

So, in order to better my chances, im thinking DAT again....and soon. The schools I've applied to already have my app's complete with my 20AA DAT but I think I might be able to push that higher; select no schools so incase i go down it don't matter they don't see it. I do run the risk however of having a lower score should I decide to apply again. I also face the financial burden of resending DAT's to new schools, with all of this in account, october 20th ~1 month from now or so seems logical (study/practice time since I have all the material needed and i'm pretty fresh with all DAT stuff. Anyone think im crazy for doing this???...it is plain dumb? oh my current DAT breakdown is
AA/TS/PAT/BIO/OC/GC/VR/QR
20/19/18/ 21 /18 /19 /22/18

I don't think you need to retake it. Plus, the information you got is the opinion from one person. I would start to worry maybe if ten directors said this. I think you're fine; your scores are nice and competitive.

i still think 18+ is fine. you're just wasting your money with a retake.

noooooo dont tell me this!

Why not apply all over the country? It sucks to move away from an area you love but I would be totally out of luck if I only applied to both NW schools.

if anything, u'll improve ur scores. i think you'll do a lot better. just practice over and over again. i dont think you're crazy. i just think u have that burning desire to get into dental school, which we all have. it's a competitive field and if you're ambitious enough to think about retaking it even with the listed consequences, i'm sure you'll improve ur scores. plus, i think one month is plenty of time to raise it if u study hardcore everyday. i hope you do well.

those scores can get you in if you have extracurricular activities, and can speak eloquently about yourself at an interview...if you think you suck at interviews and have NO extracurriculars then i would suggest retaking it...

herein lies the problem folks....getting an interview....

extracirric's and the rest are more than enough...been around that block with many schools and they all have that answer for me.....

no interviews yet......

just need the chance...

you do realize it is only sept 21st? schools will have 2000-3000 applicants a lot of time goes to choosing students...give it time
