Am I crazy for wanting to pursue ACZM?

I really think I want to do zoo medicine and these days most zoos are only hiring boarded ACZMs. I know residencies are really hard to get in this field and my grades are meh so far (I'm just a first year so hey I have time to bring them up).

I've encountered a good bit of negativity from people when I say I want to be an ACZM because it's kind of a hard route, but I'm just trying to follow my dreams here.

I guess I'm just looking for more opinions here. Am I crazy for wanting to pursue this?

It's fine to follow a dream, but you also need to make sure you have a backup plan in case it doesn't work out. You don't have to give up without even trying, but do be realistic about it.

Not crazy. Some people have to / get to do it.

Just make sure you really understand what you're getting into so you can best set yourself up to achieve your goal.

I mean, some people get to be astronauts too, and the odds aren't great there, either.

I've figured out why you are grumpy. You really wanted to be the first astronaut to put a white panel van in space. Then you realized that goal wasn't exactly easy to achieve. I mean, don't give up yet, there is still time. 😉
