Am I crazy or is this just strange??

Okay, so I have postponed posting my dilemma for a while thinking that something would show up in the mail but to no avail, nothing has.
So here is my situation:
I have a 3.98 GPA in Biochem at U of Arizona, a high DAT score, tons of shadowing, two dentists in the family, and some fairly decent letters of rec. I am an Oklahoma resident.
I sent in AADSAS in June, and I received secondaries from all schools that I applied to in August/early Sept.
I applied to only five schools: U of Oklahoma; U Washington, UNorthCarolina, Harvard, and UCLA.
To date: I have interviewed at OU and am expecting to hear back Dec 1 from them--(I probably will end up going there...all my fam went there and I am family friends with the President of the univ)
I have just received interview invites from Harvard and U Washington and am attending those on Dec 3rd and Dec 13th respectively.

Here is the problem: I have not heard ANYTHING from UCLA or UNC so far. I am so sad because I would give my right ARM to go to UCLA, and I am just so bummed I have not heard from them yet....what do you guys think I should do? I confirmed my complete application in September and both UCLA and UNC definitely said they had everything.
Do you think I should email or call them to doublecheck on my status? Do you think those two schools are looking for something other than what I have? I know my DAT scores arent Super STELLAR, but I dont think they are bad either.
What would you do? I would love to be a Bruin next year, but I am starting to lose hope...🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

I would ABSOLUTELY call them and find out your status and when you will be hearing back (either way). I would talk to someone in the admissions who is a counselor or even the director of admissions, not just to whoever answers the phone. Make sure they KNOW that you are very enthusiastic about attending their program. Good luck!

Fleisch, i would give my left arm to be your classmate at UCLA next year (you're a super hottie)... with that said, the 2 schools in question are state schools that accept very limited amounts of out of staters. Barron's listed that for the 2002-2003 cycle, 11 out of the 90 acceptees were from out of state at UCLA. Your stats are huge and maybe if you really want to attend UCLA you could stop by the campus and tell them how much you like their school and why they should accept you... speak to ms. evelyn marques, the office manager... and pleaz pleaz pleaz, if you do come to LA let me know so i could take you out for a date... thx

hahaha, you are too cute Precarious...I will definitely take you up on that offer if I get to LA next year...Ok, I am going to take your advice next Monday and call UCLA...I have a feeling of impending doom with the situation because I just feel like I would have heard back by now.🙁

Hmm, maybe it's the whole Cali-resident favoritism thing. Out of my interview group, all 6 were CA residents. Half of them graduated from UCLA while the other half were from the other UC's (mostly Berkeley).

After talking to a handful of UCLA dental students, I've (unscientifically) calculated the average GPA to be around 3.8 with a 22 AA/22 TS/20 PAT. You have the numbers and extra-curriculars that typically warrant an interview. I think the process just takes more time with non-residents.

UNC is pretty much a long shot for out of state. They didn't review my application till January and then I interviewed sometime after that. But I didn't get an acceptance till the middle of May from them.

I'd go ahead and call, but they'll just say they're getting to it and will notify you when it's been reviewed. Good luck.

Oh yeah, and if you have hotmail as your method of contact, definitely call these schools. I have heard of cases of hotmail filtering out interview invites. Not sure why. I actually just heard of another case today (but involving med school interviews).

They could be thinkin that you have great stats and such, that you would want to stay in oklahoma, rather than sending U an early interview, they could be puttin your application on the backburner.

Hey don't panic to much. I just got an invite from UCLA last week after having my app. done in like May of this year. So... don't worry. (I have already had 5 interviews, so far, yes I think they are slow.)

I didn't hear anything from UNC either. I applied ages ago too. After looking at your stats I don't feel so bad anymore lol. No, but seriously, you probably will eventually get in, but later since you're out of state. I always wondererd if they used this as a scare technique to deter out of state applicants.

On the plus side though if you go to OU, you'll save a ton of money and go to a school with a good football team.
