Am I crazy, or should i be expecting so few interviews?

hey everyone,

i have a 3.69 GPA, 19/19 DAT, and have only received 2 interviews, one from my state school and one from UPenn. I was rejected outright from Nova and NYU, and haven't heard from anyone else, even though I also have a lot of dental shadowing experience (roughly 200 hrs) and volunteering experience (i live in post-katrina new orleans), and some pretty cool extracurriculars, etc. that i am legitimately passionate about. I really have no idea what i could do right now to get an acceptance somewhere. the whole process is kindof baffling me somehow. The other private schools I applied to were Tufts, BU, Pacific, and Temple, but again, I haven't heard back.

Any suggestions? It seems like people with comparable or lower stats are doing much better in the sdn network, so i wonder if i have something wrong...maybe where i applied to? i tried to pick schools with strong clinical programs. i write really well and had an admissions advisor read my essay, and i generally interview well too, so i shudder to think that admissions committees have some really negative perception of me coming through or something, lol.

let me know what you think, and thanks and good luck to all!

I think your stats are competitive. Did you apply late? It would make sense if you haven't heard back from schools if you did.

I think you will get more interview invites, so don't worry!! 😀

yea...when did you apply? when were you considered complete?...these could play a role

Thirding this. Your stats are fairly competitive so I think you should have some more interviews unless you applied late or your personal statement says something like, "I want to be a dentist because I want to make boatloads of money LOL!". Let us know when you applied!

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies. At the time my DAT scores didn't get sent to schools until the end of Sept I think, so that might have been late enough for me to miss out on a few potential schools...If I could offer anyone any good advice, it would be to apply early! haha.

All's well now though, and I'm happily studying for my first exam in dental school at UPenn. 🙂

Congratulations, you made it into an awesome school. It's my top choice (I think. I'm sort of flip flopping on what my top choice is. It's one of my top three.)

nyu rejected you? what the hell, thats ridiculous

whats your full dat? did you retake?

Just be happy that you received some interviews....some of us don't have that opportunity yet.

please note, OP wrote this jan 08, he is already in DS (a dang hard one to get into i might add!).
