Am I crazy to buy a mac for UCD?

Doesn't make a bit of difference! Go with whatever you feel most comfortable, make sure you have a wireless card and you're off!

I see that they have a deal with Dell, but I'd rather have a mac. Is having a mac going to be a pain or not so much?

Thanks!

First I don't like apple.
Second When there are docs and or programs to share, USMLE, class, ect it's all windows based. I had one student complain that an EKG program a professor gave me to copy and give out was not "Apple friendly". Lastly you will pay a lot more for an APPLE.

End of soap box.

The guy that does the healthcare informatics bought all Macs for the medical department (about 100).

So the hardware you can use easier if you had a laptop (printer, firewire drives).

Most of the med stuff you would use is internet based anyway so platform doesn't matter.

Extra cost of a mac laptop offset by no time spent chasing down viruses, losing data (in my opinion).

Hey man
I love my mac. It never crashes, runs all the programs I need, and looks cool. I have yet to have a problem (knock on wood).
If you really can't live w/o pc apps, then you could always get virtual pc. I got this program, and used it plenty at first. Now that I know how to use my mac, I rarely ever turn it on.
My $.02
