I am at a CC right now and I have a 3.65 GPA with a B in my only bio course. I'm transferring in the fall and am really worried about my GPA falling when I transfer. Does anyone with an average DAT score get accepted with a GPA in the 3.1-3.4 range?

I cannot stop worrying about not getting accepted into dental school. If I did not get accepted would it be crazy to start my masters to improve my stats?

Basically, am I overthinking this entire process, or am I behind?

Thanks.

There are some people who get into dental school with an "average DAT score" and a GPA in the 3.1-3.4 range.

Worrying is not going to get you anywhere. You have a good GPA right now so be proud of that. Will it drop when you transfer? It might but it might not. Just work hard and get good grades. Otherwise the stress will eat you.

Good luck

I think you're great right now. Try and get all the A's possible while at CC because they are harder to get at a state school usually. I wouldn't do a masters for the sake of getting into D-school unless your GPA is horrible or you are very interested in the masters program. You'll be fine if you keep working hard.

You're fine now... However it will be really difficult to get into a school with an average DAT and a 3.1. Hey, if you can't hack it when you transfer then you probably won't be able to hack it in dental school. Good luck!!

Dude, you are worrying about a problem that doesn't even exist yet!! You have a solid GPA now... just keep the studying up when you transfer.

I had a 3.7 when i was at my CC... and since i have transferred, my GPA has actually gone up about.1-.2

I think that CC are still a good representation of college students. If you are a top student there, you can be a top student at a university. At the university, there are more people, but still the same percentage of lazy students, dumb students, and smart students. IMO...

make sure you do well on the Dat. Your Dat is gonna be heavily scrutinized because of your cc credits/inflated GPA. a friend of mine had a 4.0 at cc and maintained a 3.8 at 4 year college after transferring but did average on Dat (18-19). Didn't get in anywhere (only applied to 6 schools)

All I gotta say is that enjoy the rest of your semester at the CC. Once you get to a 4-year university/college, it won't be as easy. Don't worry about getting in, worry about finishing your classes first.

FYI, I had 4.0 at CC with all my prereqs completed plus other ****(66 credits total). I am currently only taking 2 upper level science courses at the university and am not doing so well.

Damn i should have probably transferred to a small private school...

good luck

Really?? Small private schools generally are better at kicking your butt than large universities.

Well I guess it depends on what school you go to but I think generally, small-sized classes are easier to do well in than 300+ kids lecture halls.

Small classes and big classes have their respective pros and cons. When you said "small private school" I thought of small schools like Amherst or Williams. At schools like these you'll see less multiple choice exams like you see in classes with 200+ students and more short answer and essay type questions.

With how competitive pre-dental students are these days, I think that you should aim for a 21+ AA/TS *regardless* of your GPA!
