I just took my first General Chemistry midterm. Suffice to say I did not do as well as I hoped. I probably got a score in the 65-70% range (this is the raw score, not curved). I have a feeling that most of my classmates did worse....

The only good news is that the final grade for the class is curved very generously.

The funny thing was that I actually felt pretty confident about it. I knew most of the homework problems and understood most of the material. I actually studied for it (not an all-nighter or anything like that, but still; doesn't 1-2 hours count for something?). It was the 'twisted' ways that some of the questions were worded that stumped me.

My question is simple: Does it get easier (as far as the quarter goes?).

:laugh:screwed! i suggest you pack up your carcurator and drop from the crass. your entire schorastic career is based on one midterm! i think suicide is rooking rike a rear possibirity!

Yes it does. I assume you are a first year undergrad if you are taking Gen Chem I?
After a few terms in college you learn how to manage your time and how to study. Find what works for you whether it be study groups, TAs, office hours or wikipedia.... Everyone has a bad test here and there. The material does get harder but your learning and test taking should improve along the way too. Hell, I remember getting an F on my first two midterms in Physics I, scraped by and ended up with a C in the class, the final saved me from failing, I went back and took the course year later and aced it.

The courses will get harder but if you find your groove the pre requirements are not that bad. Some of them are easy and some require long hours studying.

Although your intentions are pure it is hard to get a joke about suicide.
Hye, I agree with Ethanol you should relax but keep up the stride. Just knock your courses down and sort them out towards the end.

I also did bad on a few tests in that class. The best thing you can do is go to your teacher's office hours and try to get help. I also bought Schaums College chemistry book and it helped explain some things better than my teacher could (the practice problems help the most). You might not be studying effectively for the material. Get help ASAP so you will do better for the 2nd half!

If you say the questions were "twisted", you probably didn't understand the material as well as you thought. Make sure that you understand the concepts and not just how to write out problems. I would try re-vamping your study habits. Since it's your first year in school (I assume), it may take a bit to figure out how to study best.

it happens to the best of us
even the best fall down sometime

it's only your first semester, don't freak out too early.
if you got C all the way through sophomore, then you may be finished.
