Hi all,

I recently have switched my career plan and am aiming to go to dental school. I really want to apply to get in for next cycle, but I think I'm too late. I want to apply to the University of Minnesota whose deadline is the 13th. I have my pre-requisites done and am studying for the DAT. I would take the DAT on January 1st and likely submit my application at the same time. Would this be too late?

Per the ADA FAQ: "Official score reports are reported to those schools requested on the application approximately three to four weeks after the test."

Minnesota requires the scores by January 13th, so a test on the 1st is unlikely to make it in time. Also keep in mind that even if your scores got there in time, they will be sending out acceptance offers on December 1st, so there will be very few seats left by January. They will probably have some interviews in the spring, but there will only be a few seats they are trying to fill.

If you want to try get in this cycle, I'd say to take the DAT and check every day to see if your score is posted. If they are in by the 13th, send your application in to Minnesota if you feel your application is strong. If not, apply to other schools or just start preparing for the next cycle now and submit your applications in June.

Submitting in mid-August is generally considered late. Submitting in January would just be donating your money to UMN mate. Keep on volunteering and shadowing and apply in June.
I got 3 interviews with applying in mid August. Can definitely have seen myself receiving more if applied earlier. Wouldn’t say August is the end of the world though for your chances.
