am I late in the schedule? I still have to take the DAT and don't plan on having my lors finished until mid-oct. I guess it will take the service another month to verify. So is mid-november too late?

Here's what you do:

take the DAT as soon as humanly possible. I don't quite uderstand how you can't get rec letters sooner. Do you not have a predental committee at your school, and why can't you ask proffs in classes you already had (you must have had 3 years previously, right??). But, unless you make 21 up and have a 3.7 up GPA, or something outlandish (like ex-astronaut or secretary of Defense), I would be concerned. Oh yea, and apply to a ton of schools, every bite counts, right?

So, there is something remotely resembling a constructive advice. Invites to most schools have already begun, and the rest will join in about 2 weeks.

I applied in September and ended up needing to reapply. With fabulous stats it's never to late but with statistics of the rest of us mortals it is quickly becoming very long odds. When I applied late I did so with the understanding that I would reapply if I needed to reapply. You could still get in for the 2008 cycle - it's dollars versus desire for dentistry at this point.

IMHO everyone will have a chance of admission even with a late application. The stronger DAT and lower GPA may or may not offset each other depending on what the adcom is looking for. It's not a magic formula, no two schools do things in the same way. I'm not on an adcom. Apply early and you application should receive full consideration. Apply late and adcoms will put your application in the piles. Better or worse numbers will move you application up or down the piles as opportunity permits. There are no guarantees in the application process.

that i would love to see! attack your dat full-force and with a good score hopefully all will be well...at this point, make sure all your other materials are in so they're just waiting for your dat scores...good luck
