Hey everyone. So I'm a junior planning on taking the MCAT this spring. I have a 3.99 GPA, but this year, with all my upper bio classes, I'm really starting to freak out. I've yet to get a solid A on an upper level bio exam, and my first upper level bio class is what ruined my 4.0 gpa. I'm a bio major, but I've realized I kinda really dislike bio, but I still really like the anatomy/phys part of it (aka medicine). Am I screwed because I'm realizing these bio classes are kicking my butt? Am I really cut out for this even though there's a ton of other kids in my classes getting A's on exams? Ugh. Wish I could switch to a chem major but it's too late.

I'm also horrified for the MCAT. I've always done so well in school, but now when its getting difficult, I'm slacking? Is that a bad sign?

rule 1: take a breath

I might be off here, but the MCAT seemed to be mostly either lower-level science content (bio, chem, phys) or somewhat simple upper-level course information (if your school is any good, the biochem you're taught there is WAYYYYY more than you actually need to know for the test. Same with ochem). I also struggled with some upper level bio courses last year and I was more than satisfied with my MCAT (warning: n=1). Don't panic just yet, just keep stabbing at it and potentially look at how you may need to revise your study strategies before medical school. You're far, far, far from doom nonetheless.

lol I know it sounds ridiculous but what if my gpa tanks after this year?

Wow, this actually made me feel a lot better. Thank you. I suppose I haven't officially started studying for the MCAT yet, but all my course content has made me worried.

Suggest getting some help for your anxiety.

It's OK not to be perfect. Getting a B in a course is not tanking.

What to do if you get all C's next semester? Figure out what you did wrong, and then get As next year.

Goro beat me to the "it is OK to not be perfect" thing.

See a problem, fix a problem. Don't let it happen again. Improvement and self-reflection is something that adcoms look for according to one of my ugrad professors.

You do not have to have a 4.0 or anything close to it! I personally had some B's and am getting plenty of interviews. Med schools understand that things happen.
