Am I the only person that didn't know the passage questions were experimental in chem and bio??? I did well but i ran out of time in chem and it would have been great if I'd known this 🙁 did any one else not know this?

they posted it in their website a while back... So yeah... You had the same advantage as every other person that has taken the PCAT before 🙂 Wish I knew what my experimental questions were when I took it back in January 🙁

It was both posted on their website, as well as highlighted by any current strategy guides. Anyone who read the information provided about the test structure should of known about the experimental advantage of this test. Having said that I still had plenty of time to go back and complete the passage questions after finishing graded questions.
I only used the 2013-2014 version of Kaplan to study so it wasn't mentioned and only went to the website while registering and didn't see it. I know it's my fault I just wanted to see who else weren't aware.
I didn't have enough time to finish QA or chem but I'm still happy with my score besides verbal. I got 91 comp with VA 58, Bio 97, RC 84, QA 85, chem 88. I just feel like I would have done better had I known.

I knew 8 questions would be experimental, but I did NOT know which ones they were. You're not the only one!

I had no idea either. Wasted a ton of time on them!! Ended up with 57 in bio

Why is everyone assuming the passage questions are experimental? I feel like it's so risky to go in thinking that's the case. It wasn't stated anywhere they were. A lot of them could be easily answered w/o reading the passage.

From Kaplan:
  • NEW Passages with question sets will appear in the Biology and Chemistry sections. They're unscored for now, but you should know how to handle them on Test Day
I agree with you. They're easy to answer, and even if I knew about this beforehand, I would still answer them. Not worth risking in my opinion.

I'm in the same boat as you; I didn't know either...still got a 92 PR composite, but I feel I would've done better if I didn't devote time to answering those passage questions.

Regardless, the fact that someone posted this information from Kaplan's website makes me weary....just going from Kaplan's books, they clearly didn't know what types of material was on certain sections of the PCAT...so I don't think I would've trusted them even if I had known this.

Kaplan is the official prep course endorsed by the pcat. And the same information was given on the pcat website for anyone who read through the test structure information. Still like others have said, even without knowing they could be skipped the questions weren't that hard.

Yes, I agree that the passage questions weren't difficult...I mean most of the time you didn't even have to read the passage.

Hmm, in regards to Kaplan being the official prep course, turns out you're right, but given my experience with Kaplan I still wouldn't trust them.
The AACP's endorsement for Kaplan came simultaneously with a joint announcement that Kaplan would be giving the AACP money to award at its own discretion in scholarships. So again, I don't really care too much for Kaplan being 'official'...it is a title that you can often just 'pay for'.

Additionally Kaplan's official PCAT prep book 'endorsed' by the PCAT was missing a slew of information (i.e. indefinite integrals, antiderivatives, integration, amino acid structures, microbiology, etc. just to name a few).

But yes, at the end of the day, the passage questions don't take up too much time...
I'm just surprised that the 'official' book of the PCAT produced by Kaplan was missing so many topics that were named point blank in Pearson's official study guide. It wouldn't even have required coordination between Kaplan and the PCAT for Kaplan to include the topics they were missing...they just had to open up the study guide and read...
