I'm taking a biomaterials course right now, and it says that one of the properties of Amalgam is "creep." Can someone explain to me exactly what this is?

Thanks

Doh! How the hell do I move this into the dental forum?

All creep is deformation with time in response to a constant stress. It can also be called strain relaxation.

thx a lot buddy

Isn't it also called ditching? Or does creep lead to ditching of margins (ie they are not synonyms)... Just a clarity issue with me. Thx

Creep- Time-dependent plastic strain of a material under a static load or constant stress.
