I was wondering if, since AMCAS counts B+ as 3.3, do A+'s count as 4.3? My school counts A+'s as 4.0's but I was wondering if AMCAS might be different when calculating my GPA.

Nope, it only counts as a 4.0.

nah...we not in high school anymore 😉

I've heard that Rice [or maybe it was TCU] gives a 4.3 for an A+. The whole idea of a 4.0 A+ is just kind of stupid when get a 4.0 A and have to work a whole lot less hard for it.

I go to Cornell and they count A+'s as 4.3's. The trouble is, Cornell is one of the most hard ass Ivies (the opposite spectrum of Harvard's inflation), so like 1 or 2 people out of a class of 500 or so will get an A+ after first year. A's are 4.0's.

My school gives out A+, but still counts as 4.0

A 4.3 for an A+ is stupid and confuses people. Also isnt MIT or some tech school out of 5.0?

See, if someone tells me they have a 3.7 Ill be impressed. But if its from a school where its out of 5.0 or a possibility of a 4.3, thats not nearly as impressive. It also kills standardization.

I wonder what geniuses came up with this grade inflation junk BY increasing the ceiling above 4.0. 🙄

I went to Rice, and we did get 4.3 for an A+. However, you generally had to blow the curve by at least 10% (as in, you had to beat the next top person by 10%) to get an A+, which meant that there could only be one A+ in each class, and usually none. I got one in my entire time there, and it was the highlight of my young life.

Rice is known for having pretty much the opposite of grade inflation, so watch it, Gleevec. 😉

I'm guessing that the AAMCAS counts A-'s as a 3.7 then... right?

well i guess it doesnt matter if some people get 4.3s because amcas grades it the same like as everyone else thru a 4.0 scale.

i guess they are good for something.
