For those of you who haven't received the email, here it is. I must admit I'm relieved to have the extra time.

Dear AMCAS Applicant,

The AAMC and other businesses and residences in a large section of the Georgetown district of Washington D.C. were without power between mid-afternoon Wednesday, June 12 and late-evening Saturday, June 16. We expect that it will now take us approximately 24 to 48 hours to test all AAMC and AMCAS systems and resume our services, and wanted to let you know our current status.

This outage has affected applicant services in the following ways:

1) All AAMC phone lines and computer systems were out of service during the outage.

2) The June 18 initial day for certification and submission of the AMCAS application has been delayed. The earliest potential date for applicants to submit an AMCAS application will be Thursday, June 21, and we will keep you updated via e-mail and our web site at www.aamc.org/amcas

3) Due to the D.C. outage we have not yet resolved an issue regarding Academic Term in the AMCAS application. This issue has prevented a number of applicants from successfully entering their coursework on the application.

*We are currently in the process of testing a resolution to this issue, and expect it to be fully resolved by Thursday, June 21, prior to a postponed date for application submission.

4) The AMCAS 2002 application was off-line, but is now back up.

5) Our e-mail systems were down, preventing your e-mail from being received or answered. For those of you who have submitted questions that are outstanding, thanks for your patience as our staff responds to the thousands of e-mails received during the outage. For those who have submitted questions regarding the unavailability of the application, or this power outage, please consider this e-mail your response.

*An important note for applicants who have submitted a FAP application:
Please remember that submitting an AMCAS application prior to receiving a FAP decision will remove you from consideration for the Fee Assistance Program. If you wish to be considered for the Fee Assistance Program, you must wait for a FAP decision to submit your AMCAS application.

We understand how frustrating these difficulties and delays are for applicants, and we're working to get things back up and running as quickly as possible. Please rest assured that medical schools are aware of the power outage and the resultant delays. We are also sending a copy of this e-mail to all medical schools to reiterate our current situation. Thank you for your understanding as we work to resolve this matter.

AMCAS :) :)
