So from what I've read before, the AMCAS application will take your original grade for a course and the retake grade and average them out, but it'll only count for the same amount of credits. Example, if I had a C (4 credits) and an A (4 credits) this would average out to a B (4 credits), not a B (8 credits)?

Also, if you retake a class at a different institution, is that calculated the same as retaking it at the same institution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Afaik It's just another grade. There isn't a retake formula for amcas. You got a c in organic and an a in organic. Done. For DO schools, your most recent attempt is all that's counted.

loveoforcanig answer the first part so i'll chime in on the second part.

AMCAS does not care where you took the class, a 3 credit class A at Giant State University is the same as a 3 credit class A at private stuck-up university. The ADCOMS do care though, but idk how much.
